UFC 106 Betting – Picks for the Main Events at BSN SportsWhile NFL betting and the NBA highlight a busy sports weekend, UFC 106 appeals to a different breed of fan and bettor. If you’re the type who likes the fights, keep reading, as we have some picks for this Saturday’s main events.

LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT BOUT: Tito Ortiz (15-6-1) vs Forrest Griffin (16-6)
Sportsbook odds: Ortiz +105, Griffin -135

In a rematch of their epic battle in 2006, which ended in a controversial split decision, Tito Ortiz and Forrest Griffin battle as Ortiz looks to improve to 2-0 against Griffin. Both fighters have plenty to prove, as Ortiz hasn’t fought for 18 months and Griffin had a mental breakdown after losing badly to Anderson Silva in August. Ortiz’s powerful wrestling and takedowns probably give him a slight ground advantage but Griffin is arguably the more versatile fighter. He can do more in the standup, especially with his great leg kicks, which he can use to stop Ortiz from shooting. Expect another close fight but I think Griffin takes this bout by decision.

Sports betting pick: Griffin -135

WELTERWEIGHT BOUT: Josh Koscheck (13-4) vs Anthony Johnson (8-2)
Sportsbook odds: Koscheck +105, Johnson -135

Dan Hardy is the No. 1 contender at welterweight but Josh Koscheck and Anthony Johnson may be next in the pecking order, so this fight is as big as the Super Bowl odds for them. Koscheck is the more versatile fighter; he’s a former NCAA Division-1 wrestling champion and he’s developed some powerful striking to complement his ground skills. Anthony Johnson is developing a reputation as a poor man’s Mike Tyson in the UFC; he’s an absolute killer in the standup game, already with several highlight-reel knockouts to his name. Koscheck has the tools to win but I think his ego will get the better of him. He’ll want to show he can stand and trade with Johnson and that will open the door for Johnson to unload with some heavy strikes. Look for a knockout victory from “Rumble” Johnson.

Sports betting pick: Johnson -135

LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT BOUT: Luiz Cane (10-1) vs Antonio Rogerio Nogueira (17-3)
Sportsbook odds: Cane +110, Nogueira -140

Luiz Cane is a rising star in the light heavyweight division; his one “loss” came via disqualification so he’s never truly been beaten. A Muay Thai striker, he relies on knockout power to win bouts. He may be biting off more than he can chew with Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, however. The twin brother of the legendary Minotauro Nogueira, Rogerio brings a similar Jiu-Jitsu mastery to the Octagon. He also has good technical boxing skills that he can use to keep Cane at bay and set up his takedowns. I think Nogueira eventually gets this fight to the ground and pulls out a submission.

Sports betting pick: Nogueira -140
