Aldo vs. Edgar: First Superfight of 2013

First Superfight of 2013In recent months, it has become fashionable to talk of superfights, in the absence of real contenders in some divisions. Talks on a possible showdown between Anderson Silva and Jon Jones or between Brazilian and Georges St-Pierre seems stalled, though, in the lightweights, the fight between Frankie Edgar and Jose Aldo may be listed as the first superfight of 2013. A fight that fans have wanted to see for years and finally will take place on February 2 at UFC 156.

Either way, the decisions of Joe Silva and Sean Shelby, UFC matchmakers hardly satisfy the entire universe of football fans. Recently, the decision to give him another chance holder Frankie Edgar (this time in the featherweight division) was controversial among those who argue that Edgar has not done enough to earn merit such recognition. If we simplify the analysis and we were straight to the figures, it is difficult to defend the decision to grant a title fight a man who has losses in his past records. Also, Edgar will be making his debut in the 145lbs and played the title without a prior history in that division.
