Andy Roddick First Title in 11 MonthsAndy Roddick reached its first title in 11 months by defeating Radek Stepanek in the final of tennis tournament in Brisbane, his first appointment of the year.

Roddick, world number seven, beat defending champion 7-6 (7-2), 7-6 (9-7). His last title dated February in Memphis, where he beat Stepanek in the final.

The U.S. responds to the concerns aroused by his physical condition to begin a week before the first grand slam of the season, the Australia Open.

Roddick played in Brisbane in his first tournament since retiring in October in Shanghai by a knee injury. Its success is a warning to their rivals in Melbourne, where the tennis player of 26 years has reached the semifinals four times.

"I honestly do not know whether he expected to win my first tournament after a pause so long. I feel very well," said the winner, seeded number one and Wimbledon finalist in 2009.
