2009 U.S. Open Championship Betting Odds

Tiger Wodds - 2009 U.S Open

Oddsmakers opened the odds for the 2009 U.S. Open by making Tiger Woods an early 3/2 favorite. Phil Mickelson, who is returning to the tour a week before the U.S. Open after taking some time off to attend to his sick wife, is a midrange favorite at 10/1 and Geoff Ogilvy has been given 18/1 odds to win.

Woods took the Open back to the U.S. after four straight foreign players (Retief Goosen, Michael Campbell, Geoff Ogilvy and Angel Cabrera) had won, and a player to watch in online sports betting this year will be the feisty Spaniard, Sergio Garcia, who finished T-18 at Torrey Pines last year. Garcia finished 22nd at the Players Championship in his last tournament on American soil, and he was T-4 at Bethpage Black back in 2002 behind Woods and Mickelson.

There should be little debate as to why Woods is the current favorite to win this year’s U.S. Open. Not only is he currently the No. 1 rated PGA golfer in the world, but he’s also won the U.S. Open three times, including last year when he was victorious at Torrey Pines Golf Course. Woods’ previous wins at the U.S. Open before 2008 were in 2002 and 2000.

The 2009 U.S. Open Championship will be played at Bethpage State Park in Farmingdale, New York starting on Thursday, June 18 and concluding Sunday, June 21.
