2012 NHL Finals BettingOn June 20, the NHL will start handing out hardware to the players, coaches and executives that deserve individual recognition. The online sportsbooks love to follow the NHL awards and see how winning an award may affect a player or coach's performance in the following season.

The NHL awards show is always a star-studded event, but it is also significant in helping some players rise to the top of the NHL ranks and establish their dominance. As the best sports betting sites start to consider the favorites in all of the NHL awards categories, the biggest award still remains the league MVP award. Let's see who some of the favorites are to win this year's Hart Trophy and establish themselves as part of an elite group of NHL players.

Henrik Lundqvist – New York Rangers

Goalies cannot be on-ice captains for their teams and it is extremely difficult for a goalie to win the Hart Trophy. The last goalie to dominate the league MVP voting was Dominik Hasek of the Buffalo Sabres.

As great as Lundqvist plays on a regular basis, he is not MVP material. Some would argue that with the likes of Ryan Callahan putting out superior efforts for the Rangers, Lundqvist isn't even the MVP of his own team. The bookmaker betting software isn't taking anything away from the stellar play of Lundqvistm, but he is just not league MVP material.

Claude Giroux – Philadelphia Flyers

It is unusual when a young player has such a profound effect on a team that even the storied veterans miss that young player's presence when he is injured. Ask any player on the Philadelphia Flyers' roster and they will tell you that Claude Giroux is the focal point of the entire Philadelphia team. A betting sports news review shows that when Giroux was injured earlier in the season, the goal scoring production for veterans like Jaromir Jagr fell way off. Claude Giroux personifies the definition of an NHL league MVP.

Evgeni Malkin – Pittsburgh Penguins

Few players rose to the occasion better than the Penguins' Evgeni Malkin. With team captain Sidney Crosby caught in a cycle of headaches and concussion symptoms, someone had to step up and grab the reins of the Pittsburgh team. That someone was Malkin, and he made a significant impact on the fortunes of the Penguins' season. The problem that NHL hockey news writers have with Malkin is that he is a great player on a team filled with great players. The Penguins have found ways to win without Malkin in the past and the team will continue to find ways to overcome the challenges that are associated with injuries.
