NHL Playoff Preview: Second Round Team Preview – How Far Can Philly Go?

NHL Playoffs PicksThe sports betting online experts are not really coming out and saying what happened to the Pittsburgh Penguins in the first round of the playoffs against the Philadelphia Flyers. As bad as the Philadelphia goaltending was in that series, the Pittsburgh goaltending was much worse. This is the second year in a row that Marc-Andre Fleury has disappointed Pittsburgh fans with his playoff performance. Now the Penguins have all summer to consider its next move.

The Philadelphia Flyers were a great story in the first round of the playoffs, but the online betting sites are wondering just how far the Flyers can really go in the playoffs. There are elements of the Philadelphia game that are solid, and then there are things about the Philadelphia game that will not serve the team well in the second round. The Flyers have a grudge against the Boston Bruins and the Pittsburgh Penguins. If Boston gets eliminated, then the Philadelphia Flyers will have no emotional inspiration left to use.

Offense
The way that the Philadelphia Flyers play offense is it gets the other team frustrated with chippy play in the corners, and then comes bursting out to the front of the next to score. The team's top scorer Claude Giroux is a prime example of the Philadelphia method of scoring. The price per head sports experts will watch Giroux deliver a legal but devastating hit along the boards, and then zoom in to the slot to pick up a lose puck and score. That is how the Flyers score goals, and against an undisciplined defense like the Penguins, that method works. It also helps to be playing a goaltender that has consistently struggled in the playoffs for years. The Flyers win the mental battle, and then take the physical game to the opposition. It is the new version of the "Broad Street Bullies."

Defense
As bad as Marc-Andre Fleury played for the Penguins, Philadelphia goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov did not fare much better. Brygzalov finished the first round of the playoffs with a save percentage well below .900 and he allowed five goals or more in two of the five games of the series. It was the Philadelphia offense that saved Bryzgalov. A sports betting news analysis of the Flyers this year and last year shows that Philadelphia enters the second round of the playoffs with goaltending problems again. It did not go well last year for Philadelphia, and it will probably not go well this year.

Summary
Last season, the Philadelphia Flyers beat the Buffalo Sabres in the first round of the playoffs using three goaltenders. The NHL scores were not as favorable for the Flyers in the second round last year as the team bowed out to the eventual champion Boston Bruins. The Flyers go into the second round this season with the exact same issues it had last year. There is a strong offense in Philly, but the goaltending is suspect at best. Since Philadelphia will be entering the second round of the playoffs this year with the same handicap as last year, fans can look for similar results to last year as well.
