As of this writing, the playoff primer for both the East and West conferences has been heavily dominated by two divisions filled with elite teams. On the one hand, the Atlantic division has become the NHL’s equivalent to March Madness betting picks powerhouse conference the Big East. Conversely, the Central division in the Western Conference has become the Big 10 of the NHL, as all of the team’s in the division have a shot at winning the Stanley Cup. Today we will look at which matchups we are most excited for.

If the National Hockey League playoffs were to start today, the Atlantic and Central divisions, would each be well represented. The Pittsburgh Penguins have not been waiting for Sidney Crosby to make his triumphant return to the NHL. Evgeni Malkin has put the Penguins on his back and carried Pittsburgh to fourth place in the Eastern Conference. The Penguins are chasing the best team in the conference, the New York Rangers, for the first spot in the division and the first spot overall in the conference. But the Penguins are in hot pursuit. New Jersey Devils @ New York Islanders OddsOnline Sportsbook Overview
Hockey fans in New Jersey have already forgotten about last year’s roller coaster season. The Devils were one of the worst teams in hockey up until December 2010 when Jacques Lemaire was hired as coach after John McLean was fired. For the rest of the season, the Devils were one of the best teams in hockey. This year, the New Jersey sports fans are keeping an eye on March Madness spreads, but they are also watching a Devils team that is chasing a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. The Devils are trying to be that balance between scoring and defense that makes champions. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. Luckily for the Devils, it works more often than not.

The New York Islanders are one of those teams that people say has talent but then the team consistently underachieves. The price per head sportsbook experts took notice when the Islanders brought in former San Jose Sharks goalie Evgeni Nabokov to help out with a goaltending situation left in shambles by the oft-injured Rick DiPietro.

2012 Odds Dallas Stars vs. Phoenix Coyotes Sports Betting Online Overview
To say that the Phoenix Coyotes came out of nowhere to jump into the Western Conference playoff hunt is an exaggeration. The Coyotes have been hovering around the eighth and final playoff spot for some time now. It just took a couple of sustained winning streaks to push the team into the top eight. The price per head sports experts were curious to see how the Coyotes would react to the loss of goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov to the Philadelphia Flyers. The play of newly-acquired goalie Mike Smith from the Tampa Bay Lightning has allowed Phoenix to move on from Bryzgalov and make a new playoff push. The roster of the Coyotes has changed a lot in the past couple of years. But the team continues to remain a playoff contender despite the changes.

The Dallas Stars were near the top of the Pacific Division in the first half of the season. But as the 2012 March Madness betting gets closer, the Stars are finding themselves falling further and further down the Western Conference standings. When play started last week, the Stars were in 11th place in the conference and had posted a 4-5-1 record in its previous 10 games.
