Hockey Free Picks: Capitals vs. Canadiens

Washington Capitals at Montreal Canadiens PredictionsAt this point, the on line sports betting experts figure that the only team from the Southeast Division that will make the NHL Eastern Conference playoffs is the division winner. For a while there, it looked like the Winnipeg Jets would be able to sustain their success and hold onto the division lead. But the Jets have once again suffered from a lack of experience and an inability to close out games and win. Winnipeg has fallen to 13 points behind the Washington Capitals in the Southeast Division standings and that leaves Washington as the only Southeast team to make the playoffs.

The Montreal Canadiens are still locked in a desperate struggle against the Boston Bruins to see which team will win the Northeast Division. The sportsbook agents also figure that the Canadiens are much more interested in keeping the Bruins down than catching the Pittsburgh Penguins for first place in the conference. Montreal knows that a spot in the top three of the conference means at least one, and possibly two, playoff series with home ice advantage. When the Canadiens are playing well, there is nothing like home ice advantage in Montreal. It is when the Canadiens are not playing well that things get touchy with the fans.

Hockey Free Picks: Rangers vs. Hurricanes

New York Rangers at Carolina Hurricanes bettingThe New York Rangers are not meeting the betting public’s expectations this season. After an impressive regular season in 2011-12, the Rangers struggled in the playoffs. The problem was that the team could not score goals when it needed to. In order to solve that problem, New York brought in Rick Nash from the Columbus Blue Jackets. Nash has not solved the problem and the Rangers are still struggling to score goals. At this point, the Rangers are drifting in and out of eighth place in the Eastern Conference standings, which means that every game the Rangers play counts.

The sports betting online experts want to say that the only way the Carolina Hurricanes can make the playoffs is to recapture the Southeast Division lead from the Winnipeg Jets, but that is not entirely true. Actually, the Hurricanes would take eighth and seventh spot in the Eastern Conference before reaching the level of the Jets. Carolina suffered when it lost goalie Cam Ward and the team is still scraping to find ways to win without him. Carolina is going to need to find new ways to get wins on the board without Cam Ward in net if it wants to make the playoffs.

Buffalo Sabres vs. Montreal Canadiens PicksBuffalo Sabres @ Montreal Canadiens – Saturday March 23, 2013 7:00PM EST

Some fans of the Buffalo Sabres are waiting to see if their team can climb back into the Eastern Conference playoffs with a string of impressive wins. The online sportsbook experts are waiting for time and a series of predictable losses to put the Buffalo Sabres out of its misery and get the team back on the track of hunting down that elusive Stanley Cup championship that new owner Terry Pegula promised the fans two years ago. It looks like the team will be put out its misery with a road loss to the Canadiens this weekend.

This game would not represent any kind of mathematical elimination of the Sabres from playoff contention, but it would leave the team almost dead last in the Eastern Conference with less than 20 games to play in the season.

Hockey Weekend Free PicksAs the weekend approaches, there are some NHL teams that are still trying to make their impact on the league standings and make the playoffs. The online sports book experts have noticed that some teams are making a move upwards, while other teams seem to be sinking ever lower. Let’s take a look at the games that the betting sites will be following this weekend to see what games of significance could wind up having an impact on each conference’s playoff race.

Saturday – Philadelphia Flyers @ Boston Bruins

The Philadelphia Flyers was on the verge of being left for dead by the bookies, but Philly has battled its way back into the playoff hunt. The Flyers started this week nursing a two-game winning streak and looking for more. The Flyers is within striking distance of the second place New Jersey Devils in the Atlantic Division and Philadelphia is looking for more. The Bruins is finding it frustrating to chase a Montreal Canadiens team that has found new life with a bigger and stronger defense. This game should be a lot of fun to watch, but the Bruins will be able to turn home ice into an advantage in this game.
