Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Atlanta Falcons SpreadThe Jacksonville Jaguars and the Atlanta Falcons will fight on Thursday at Georgia Dome. Join Now to Bet on this Game!

Amazing what a little difference can make to a team. Guaranteed a fourth straight non-winning season, Jags’ ownership finally gave the boot to 9thyear head coach Jack Del Rio after a 38-14 home drubbing at the hands of San Diego.

So what happened next? Interim coach Mel Tucker shook things up by fi ring WR coach Johnny Cox and re-assigning coaching duties among the staff.

As a result, the team responded with its most complete game of 2011, scoring a season-high 41 points – Jags had not reached the 21-point mark on offense in their previous 12 games – as they crushed Tampa Bay by a whopping 27 points (the 325 yards gained in the win was also Jacksonville’s highest of the year).

So now that the sleeping giant has awoke, can Jax record back-to-back wins for the first time in 2011? Probably not… but covering the double-digit spread is another matter entirely.

Atlanta, stuck in the middle of an NFC South sandwich, may not have a lot left in the tank after needing a 24-0 2nd-half explosion to drop Carolina last week – especially with the Saints waiting in the Superdome for Round Two on the day after Christmas (New Orleans edged the Falcons by 3 points in OT on November 13).

The ATS archives instruct us to stay on the ground in today’s matchup.

Not only are the hosts just 1-12 ATS as favorites of 8 or more points versus an opponent off a SU and ATS win, Atlanta also gets the shakes before tangling with the Saints, going 1-2 SU and 0-3 ATS as home chalk in that same 8-plus points price range.

Can’t overlook the fact, too, that Falcons head coach Mike Smith had to visit a Charlotte hospital after last week’s game with severe chest pains.

All things considered, we’ll fade the Dirty Birds laying doubles as they look ahead to their biggest game of the gambling season on deck.

Sportsbooks currently have the Falcons listed as 10½-point favorites against the Jaguars, and the game's total is sitting at 42½.
