NFL Odds Preview for October 31, 2010: Washington Redskins vs. Detroit Lions (-1)

Washington Redskins vs. Detroit Lions betting predictionsThe average NFL betting enthusiast understands why the betting lines for this game favor the Detroit Lions. The Washington Redskins have a defense that is ranked 31st against the pass, and Detroit quarterback Matthew Stafford makes his return from injury in the game. The NFL scores this season also show an inconsistent Washington offense. In week seven, against a very weak Chicago secondary, the Redskins were barely able to put up the 17 points they scored.

The Detroit Lions are still dragging a weak defense around. The Lions defense is ranked 26th overall allowing a total of 363 yards per game. Considering the weapons that Washington has on offense, they should be able to put points up against this Detroit defense. Washington head coach Mike Shanahan is also an expert at creating a running game with even the most mediocre of running backs. With second-year man Ryan Torain, Shanahan has a diamond in the rough. But the kid is still rough.

The NFL predictions surrounding the Redskins this preseason were mixed.

Some experts had felt that owner Daniel Snyder had finally purchased that Super Bowl team he was looking for, while others feel that Snyder consistently misses the big picture in how to properly develop an NFL team. But his 2010 team has enough weapons to win the games over the weaker teams. Aside from their evolving offense, the Lions are a weaker team.

The one bright spot for the Lions on defense, and the place where Washington should focus much of their attention, is rookie defensive lineman Ndamukong Suh. The big rookie already has four and a half sacks on his way to serious consideration as NFL defensive rookie of the year. If Suh can get through to McNabb and Torain in the backfield, he can disrupt much of the Washington offense.

But the Lions will be more interested in getting quarterback Matthew Stafford back up to speed, and a game against the 26th ranked passing defense is the perfect opportunity. The Redskins secondary is extremely inconsistent this season. In week seven they shut down Jay Cutler and the Chicago Bears who have rely on their passing game to win. But in week two, Houston quarterback Matt Schaub put up 497 yards in the air against the Redskins. Once you find a way to beat the Redskins secondary, it seems to work all day long against them.

The Detroit Lions are developing a good Northbet review football team. A work stoppage next year threatens to slow the team’s development, but for now they seem to be coming together nicely. But a developing team like the Lions is going to have its problems with a veteran quarterback and future hall of fame head coach. The Redskins have too much experience to lose to the upstart Lions. While Detroit fans can start dreaming about a better football team, they are going to have to realize that those dreams won’t start coming true for another year or two.

Pick: Washington Redskins 14-10
