Houston Texans @ Indianapolis Colts – Sunday December 30, 2012 1:00PM ESTHouston Texans @ Indianapolis Colts – Sunday December 30, 2012 1:00PM EST

The football betting experts had absolutely no idea that the Indianapolis Colts would be good enough to make the playoffs in 2012. When the 2011 season ended, the Colts cleaned house on offense and made very few changes on defense. Then Indianapolis drafted quarterback Andrew Luck and the majority of its new offense in the 2012 draft. That rookie offense proceeded to break the rookie single season passing yards record and secure itself a spot in the playoffs. The scary part about the Colts is that this team still has a lot to learn as the years go by.

The Houston Texans has had quite enough losing in the past three weeks to last a lifetime. The online betting experts are still talking about the 42-14 beating the Texans took in New England in week 14 and that was compounded by the home loss to the Minnesota Vikings in week 16. In between those two games, in week 15, the Texans beat the Colts by a score of 29-17.

But it was not the dominating win that the Texans wanted to help make a statement heading into the playoffs. In week 17, the Houston Texans finally get the chance to make its statement.

Indianapolis Colts

The bookie software recognizes that one of the greatest stories in the history of the NFL will play itself out in week 17 as Colts’ head coach Chuck Pagano returns to the sidelines to coach the final game of the season. Pagano was diagnosed with leukemia in week two of the season, and has been undergoing treatment. It has been an emotionally charged season for the Colts and that emotion will spill over in this final home game of the regular season. The Colts will play hard in this game, despite having nothing to really play for. The goal is to welcome its head coach back with a win.

Houston Texans

The Texans does have something to play for in this week 17 game against the Colts. A sportsbook review of the standings in the AFC shows that if the Texans lose this game and the Broncos and Patriots win, then Houston could fall down to the third seed in the AFC. After leading the conference for most of the season, the emotional letdown heading into the playoffs that a loss to the Colts could carry would be a problem for the team. The best way to handle it is to beat the Colts.

The Bottom Line

Chuck Pagano’s story is inspiring and amazing, but Houston still has a job to do. The Colts is showing that it will be the class of the AFC South very soon, but the Houston Texans will take this opportunity to show that it is still the team to beat in the AFC and that it can hold on to the top spot in the conference.
