2012 NFL BettingIn 2008, the online sportsbook experts remember that the Detroit Lions become the first NFL team to ever go 0-16. There was nowhere for the team to go but up. So in 2009, the team went 2-14. Prior to the 2009 season, major changes were made in Detroit. Team president Matt Millen was fired and the Lions also fired its head coach. The changes that have been made since the end of the 2008 season were done with precision and expertise. Now the Detroit Lions are poised to be a playoff contender. But what can we really expect from the Lions in 2012? Join Now to Bet on this Game!

One of the first moves the Lions made was to name Jim Schwartz head coach in January of 2009. Schwartz is a fierce competitor that tries to run a tight ship. But one of the things that Schwartz was faced with was the prospects of molding a young team into a champion. Not even the best sportsbook online gave Schwartz much of a chance of building a real winner in Detroit. But Schwartz's tenacity is one of the reasons he was hired for the job. He was given a roster of future superstars that he is molding into his own image.

A lot of people think that the pieces started to fall together for the Detroit Lions when it drafted quarterback Matthew Stafford in 2009. But the BSN Sports blog experts are quick to remind us that wide receiver Calvin Johnson had already been with the Lions for two years before Stafford showed up. All Johnson needed was a quarterback to throw to him and he would blossom. The hard-nosed Stafford became that quarterback and the team was on its way.

In the 2010 draft, the Lions added two more young pieces to its championship puzzle. In that draft, the Lions took defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh and running back Jahvid Best. Suh made an instant impact and was voted the 2010 defensive rookie of the year. But his intensity has drawn criticism and suspensions from the NFL. Suh has a mean streak that has cost him and his team dearly. Coach Schwartz is trying to reign in Suh, but it can be difficult without a veteran in the locker room to mentor Suh.

Jahvid Best has the potential to be an elite NFL running back if he can just stay healthy. In his first two seasons, Best only started 15 games. The rest of the time, he was on the bench with an injury. But he hopes to remain healthy in 2012 and contribute to his team.

In the 2011 NFL draft, the Lions took defensive tackle Nick Fairley as a compliment to Suh. A BSN Sports review of the Lions' roster shows that, with the addition of some key veterans through free agency, this Lions team is ready to make its move.

With the core of a champion in place, the Detroit Lions are ready to challenge for the NFC title and make a move towards the Super Bowl. The only thing that can stop Detroit from reaching its goals is its own attitude and behavior. The fans are hoping that the team has matured enough in the last couple of years to make a legitimate run at a Super Bowl title.
