NFL Betting Picks: Atlanta Falcons Release Ray Edwards

NFL Betting PicksRay Edwards was supposed would give the Atlanta Falcons a fearsome pass rush. But it turned out that was not even good enough to stay on the team.

The Falcons released Edwards, in a bold move for a team that is in the first place that just suffered their first loss of the NFL betting season. However, that was not entirely surprising given the lack of production of Edwards since signing a five-year agreement and $ 30 million, including 11 million in guaranteed money.

Defensive end, 27 years old, did little to the Falcons in his first year and his playing time decreased steadily this season. Only four had started nine games and was credited with nine tackles and no catches. Kroy Biermann played most of the time at defensive end on the left side, while John Abraham, 34 years old, remained the team's most effective pass rusher.

The Falcons were looking for a little help when they signed Edwards Abraham, shortly after the end of the lockout of 2011. It seemed to be a solid choice, after getting 29.5 sacks in five seasons with the Minnesota Vikings.

However, after undergoing surgery during the lockout, he struggled to regain his mobility. Edwards had just 3.5 sacks in what proved to be his only full season with the Falcons, well below the production in its final two years with the Vikings (16.5 sacks).
