NFL Betting: Colts Rebuilding Project Will Take Time

Indianapolies Colts OddsIn Indianapolis, it is easier to list the players that remained from last year than to list the players that have left the team. The legal online sports betting sites are no sure that veteran wide receiver Reggie Wayne is going to be enough to keep the team competitive in 2012. Rookie quarterback Andrew Luck is walking into a situation where the team is going to build a team around him. The problem is that the team does not seem to know what kind of players to bring in and Luck just signed his contract which means he has lost time to learning his new offense. As the betting sites list the players that left Indy in the offseason, the fans in Indianapolis have come to accept the 2012 season as a rebuilding year. Peyton Manning, Jeff Saturday and Dallas Clark all had some seasons left in them that could have made the transition for Luck a little more fluid. But the Colts decided to go all in with the rebuilding process and have freed up a lot of cap space in the process. But the notion that the Colts will be bringing in veterans is probably incorrect.

Offense

The longer it took Andrew Luck to get signed, the more behind the new Colts offense got. The offensive linemen need to learn to work with Luck, the receivers need to feel comfortable with him and the coaches need to get him started on his new offensive scheme. The online sports books are interested to see how missing those critical weeks in July will affect the development of Luck in spring training. Luck will go through a lot of classroom work with his new coaches to try and learn an offense that he should have been at least introduced to by now.

When you look at the Colts' 2012 draft picks, you can just see where the team hopes to start with its rebuilding. Indianapolis took two tight ends and a wide receiver along with Luck with its first four picks. Colts' fans are hoping that the team made the right choices and that this group will grow up into a championship team.

Defense

The Colts kept a large portion of its 2011 defense together for the 2012 season. In this case, that is pretty bad news for Indianapolis fans. A 5 dimes review of the Colts' defense showed that it finished 25th in the overall rankings last season and was dismal against the pass. The team made two late round defensive picks in the draft that will not impact the performance of the team in 2012. All in all, the Colts defense needs to rebuild as well, but nothing was done to move in that direction.

Outlook

It is going to be a long season for Colts' fans in 2012 as the team tries to mold its new look into a winning team. The Colts may win two or three games as the season wears on, but fans will have to be patient if they want to see a powerhouse team like the one that was lead by Peyton Manning take the field again.
