The Detroit Lions are the big favorites on this matchup, the current betting lines is Lions listed as 8-point favorites against the Chiefs, and the game's total is sitting at 44. It’s safe to say that the Motor City is back on its feet. The cars are rolling off the assembly line, the Tigers will be in the MLB playoffs next month and the Lions have their roar back. But before we crown anybody king of this jungle, let’s take a step back and re-evaluate the football betting team. Yes, they’ve won nine games in a row (including this year’s preseason) and QB Matthew Stafford fi nally appears healthy (knock on wood). But to elevate them to this level of favoritism early on – against a playoff team, no less –is a mistake of major proportions. For openers, the Lions are just 29-28 SU and 19-37-1 ATS as favorites of late, including 12-18 SU and 6-24 ATS when laying points into an opponent off a loss. Enter the wounded Chiefs off an opening-week upset home loss to the Bills. Our database reminds us that Game Two non-division favorites in this league, off a win as an underdog, are just 1-5-1 ATS when facing an opponent that lost straight-up as a favorite – since 1980! Granted, Motown is singing the praises of its rebirth these days but this line is out of tune. It’s time to apply the war paint. More betting stats:
