NFL Preseason Week 2 Game Preview: Carolina Panthers vs. Miami Dolphins

Carolina Panthers vs. Miami Dolphins Betting PicksSports Betting Online Overview

The Miami Dolphins and Carolina Panthers both have a very good problem that they were not expecting to have. Each team is going to have a difficult time choosing a starting quarterback for week one of the regular season. The Panthers shunned convention and put Jimmy Clausen in to start the first preseason game as opposed to first overall pick Cam Newton. Clausen promptly threw an interception on his first play, but then settled into being extremely efficient. Clausen looked like he had NFL experience and did an excellent job against the Giants’ first-string defense. Then Cam Newton came in and looked equally as impressive. Newton looked composed in the pocket, showed off that rocket arm of his and used his feet when necessary but not to excess. These are good problems to have in Carolina.

The Miami Dolphins had already written in Chad Henne as the starting quarterback for week one of the regular season.

Jacksonville Jaguars vs. New England Patriots Betting PicksThe New England Patriots enter the 2011-12 sports betting season with an outlook that is completely unprecedented in the Bill Belichick-Tom Brady era. Despite an NFL-best 14 regular season wins which included victories over every division winner in their conference, the Patriots couldn’t get the job done in the postseason for a second consecutive year and were left with a feeling of disappointment. Belichick has made an effort to do what it takes to get back to the level of success that the franchise experienced when the Patriots won three Super Bowls in four years, and it will be a long road that begins this Thursday as they open their preseason schedule against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Super Bowl Hangover

Written by The Team @ EA Sports Consultants

NFL 2011 Betting SeasonThankfully, the NFL regular season is just about a month away.  Most drafted rookies are in camp, free agents are signed and teams are getting down to business.  We here at EA Sports Consultants are doing our work too.  Earlier this week we finished formulating our initial Power Rankings on all 32 NFL Teams.  With that complete, we have begun to take a look at our early season technical analysis.

The “Super Bowl Hangover” is one of the intriguing angles we like to keep an eye on during the first four weeks of the NFL season.  Since 1997, the Super Bowl Champion is 23-31-2 Against The Spread (ATS), the first 4 weeks of the next season.  That is a covering percentage of 42.5%.  Not very good for having just won the Super Bowl!  Fairing even worse, is the Super Bowl Loser.

The runner-up is a measly 22-33-1 ATS, the first 4 weeks of the next season, good for a cover rate of 40%.  If you combine both the winner and loser, you will get an ATS record of 45-64-3 for a covering percentage of 41.3% since 1997.

NFL Preseason Game Preview: Jacksonville Jaguars vs. New England Patriots

NFL Preseason Week 1 Betting OddsSports Betting Overview

The Jacksonville Jaguars and New England Patriots have a lot of questions to answer in this preseason, and some of those questions will help define each team’s ability to reach the playoffs in 2011. The Jaguars have a quarterback controversy on their hands whether they want to admit it or not. Selecting top rookie quarterback Blaine Gabbert in the 2011 NFL draft started a series of events that could disrupt the Jaguars for the entire season. Online casino sports fans watched as the media instantly flocked to get reactions from Jaguars’ veterans after Gabbert was drafted. The players towed the company line by welcoming Gabbert, but the loyalty to current quarterback David Garrard was obviously there. It would also be unfair to Garrard if he does not get a chance to find success with rookie wide receivers such as Dontrelle Inman and Cecil Shorts.

The New England Patriots made the bold move of trading for former Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chad Ochocinco, who has already shown signs of continuing his attention grabbing act in New England.
