The No. 2 of the NCAA Tournament betting Florida meets the No. 15 UC Santa Barbara this Thursday March 17, 2011 at 6: 50pm EST at St. Petes Times Forum.
Odds makers at betED sportsbook currently have the Gators listed as 13-point favorites against the Gauchos, and the game's total is sitting at 127½.
Both teams arrive in Tampa with fi ve returning starters. And while Billy Donovan’s bunch appears to be catching a lot of fl ack over landing a No. 2 seed, we feel they’re a team to watch in this tourney especially tonight. Despite a loss to Kentucky in the SEC fi nal, the Gators closed the betting season on a 10-2 SU run and will be anxious to make amends for last year’s one-andout.
Also noteworthy is Donovan’s 22-8 SU and 18-12 ATS mark in this event, including a flawless 5-0 SU and ATS versus No. 14 seeds or lower. It’s actually too bad that USCB had to hook the Gators in his opener.
The veteran Gauchos are making their third NCAA betting appearance this millennium and despite an 0-2 SU record, own a 2-0 ATS mark as double-digit dogs. The problem for Cal-Santa Barbara, however, is two-fold: the Barbies have to travel clear across the country while the Gators have a mere two-hour trek down I-75.
And despite their 2-0 ATS mark in this event, our database reminds us that the Gauchos don’t usually perform well in the role of double-digits dogs, posting a 3-31 SU mark, including 4-11 ATS over their last 15. Playing in what we feel is the by far the weakest of the four regions, look for this short trip to Tampa to turn into aFinal Four weekend in Houston for the Gators. And keep this in the memory bank for future deposits: Florida is 7-0-1 ATS this season in games they were not asked to lay points.
