March Madness BettingThis past weekend was a combination of both conference play for the Power Six and bracket busters play for March Madness betting hopefuls. In conference play, fans, media and handicappers alike could not have seen the upset coming that did in the Big 10. Led by freshman Trey Burke, the 17th nation wide ranked Michigan Wolverines, did the unthinkable, when they became the second Michigan squad this year, to take out an Ohio State team. This time, the Wolverines took out the Buckeyes sixth ranked basketball squad, which has lost to both Michigan schools in the past two weeks. Thus, sports betting enthusiast are wondering, can the Wolverines win March Madness? Join Now to Bet on this Game!

After Saturday’s monumental win over the Buckeyes, the Michigan Wolverines put the rest of the Big 10 on notice, as they plan to not only win the conference tournament starting next week, but March Madness all together. The aforementioned Trey Burke was a highly touted prospect, the Wolverines seemingly recruited out of nowhere. While Duke guard Austin Rivers is seen as a franchise shooting guard, it is the Wolverines Burke, who scouts believe can be a game changer at the next level.

Burke confirmed the praise he has been receiving, by dropping 17 points on a good Ohio State team last night. He along with combo star Zach Novak, once again led the Wolverines to a win on home court, a place that has proven to be friendly to the team, as they are undefeated this bookie software season.

Despite being 20 and seven overall, and 10 and four in the Big 10 Conference, this is one of the youngest groups to ever play for the Michigan Wolverines. For the most part, Michigan is made up of freshmen and sophomores, with only a handful of juniors and seniors also on the roster. As a result, Wolverines Head Coach John Beilein can often be seen in the locker room, making movie references to his players, to motivate them to play harder. For example, in an effort to encourage Burke and Novak to take the tough shots, and move the Wolverines ahead in the game for good, Beilein referenced the movie Tin Cup. If you are unfamiliar with Tin Cup, know, that the movie is about NBA golfer Roy McAvoy played by Kevin Costner. During the film, every time McAvoy doubts his shot at making the tough shot, his girlfriend tells him to ‘go for it’. As the movie relates to the Wolverines, each time there is doubt across the brow of one his players, Beilein tells them to ‘go for it’.

It is this kind of motivation, that has allowed the Wolverines, to quietly put together one of their best seasons in school history. As we noted before, entering last night’s game, the Wolverines were ranked 17th overall with a record of 20 – seven overall. With the team quickly developing into a powerhouse in the Big 10, this could in fact be the year they go the farthest in March Madness. In talking with a few colleagues, we have all placed Michigan in the dark horse category for team’s to surprise in the March Madness tournament. Our prediction is that Michigan does what Butler hasn’t been able to do, and that is defeat a top school to win the National Title on April 2, 2012.
