The Kansas State Wildcats will be looking for redemption when they take on the Utah State Aggies in the second round of the Southeast region bracket this Thursday. Jacob Pullen and his teammates were disappointed by the Colorado Buffaloes 87-75 in the opening round of the Big 12 title tournament, but can make a lot of people forget about the loss if they can get going in the NCAA national title tournament.
Utah State Aggies vs. Kansas State Wildcats
The Wildcats will be in tough against a Utah State team that finished the regular season with just a single loss in the WAC, and after clinching the top seed went on to dismantle the Boise State Broncos 77-69 in the conference title game.
March Madness Betting Preview: Utah State
The Aggies have been bragged about as the team from the Southeast region that has the best chance to go on a Cinderella run, which would have to begin against the Wildcats. For Utah State to have any chance of taking down any opponent, they will need star forward Taj Wesley to play to his potential. Wesley stole headlines all year in the WAC with a team-high 14.7 points per game and an average of eight rebounds, but will now face the pressure of the national spotlight. Wesley will get help from Brockeith Pane, who tied him for a team-high 19 points in the WAC title game. The Aggies will have a marginal home court advantage playing in Arizona, and if their veteran core can handle the pressure they could make some March Madness betting noise.
March Madness Betting Preview: Kansas State
Kansas State enters the tournament as one of the hardest teams to project. The same squad that upset the top two seeds in the Big 12 in the Kansas Jayhawks and Texas Longhorns also got hammered by the underdog Buffaloes in the opening round of the conference title tournament, which makes it hard to predict which team will show up. This team will go as far as star guard Jacob Pullen can take them, as the Wildcats will no doubt lean heavily on the senior once the Madness begins. Pullen averaged a team-high 19.5 points per game and 3.7 assists during the pay per head regular season, but will need more support to make any noise in the tournament.
March Madness Betting: Outlook & Pick
For all that has been made about the Aggies as a potential upset pick, a look at what Kansas State has done this year is a good indicator of the chance that team has to be the Cinderella story in 2011. Utah State has far too many question marks on a team that wasn’t battle-tested the way the Wildcats were during the regular season, and that resiliency will make the biggest sports betting bonus difference.
