March Madness Betting: Kentucky, Baylor On Course For Elite Eight

March Madness PicksRewind back just a week ago, to just before the March Madness tournament began. All of the sports betting action is about to get underway, and there is so much promise for even the casual observer’s bracket, with the possibility for anything to happen in every bracket. Now fast-forward to the Sweet 16, with Duke, Missouri, and Georgetown all out of the way, and it’s very likely there isn’t a bracket in the country that still has a shot of finishing without at least a couple of blemishes. The Blue Devils losing to Lehigh in the opening round of the South region was one of the perfect examples of how an early upset can open up the bracket for the lower seeds, even if it is the one with the top overall seed.

(1) Kentucky Wildcats vs. (4) Indiana Hoosiers
Friday, 9:45 PM ET

There may not be a way to get an exact number on how many people took the Wildcats to win the national title in their bracket, but the consensus says that its pretty high.

Kentucky was the safe bet to take to win it all, and look even better now that North Carolina is without its starting point guard Kendall Marshall because of a fractured wrist. The Hoosiers managed to survive VCU’s full-court defense despite turning the ball over an awful 22 times, with Cody Zeller and Christian Watford getting the job done on offense, and the Indiana defense doing a fine job of its own down the stretch. The Hoosiers may not be pushed as hard by Kentucky’ defense, but they are going to have a much tougher time slowing down John Calipari’s offense. The Wildcats are as talented as everyone is saying they are, and after winning each of their first two pay head contests by at least 16 they should have no problem against the upstart Hoosiers.

(3) Baylor Bears vs. (10) Xavier Musketeers
Friday, 7:15 PM ET

The Musketeers are one of four basketball programs based in the state of Ohio still alive in the March Madness, and that isn’t the only irony here. Over in the East region the Cincinnati Bearcats are still very much alive in the Sweet 16, meaning that both teams were able to survive that early season throw down and make a splash in the national title tournament after all. Xavier could be in some trouble though when they meet Baylor, who has thrived under the perfect formula for winning games in this tournament, which is a fast-transition defense combined with the ability to hit a ton of three-balls. Brady Heslip scored 27 off of nine three-balls alone in Baylor’s win over Colorado, and when you combine that outside shooting ability with the offensive games of Perry Jones III, Quincy Miller, and Pierre Jackson, it is clear that despite their shortcomings Baylor has the talent to make a splash as the Sweet 16 BSN Sports blog favorite in this matchup.
