2012 College Basketball Betting: Key Big Ten OddsThe No. 3 Ohio State Buckeyes have established that the road to a Big Ten title will have to go through the Value City Arena, and they could face their toughest conference challenge on a sports betting weekend that will go a long way to determining the overall outlook in the Big Ten. The Buckeyes host the No. 12 Michigan State Spartans for the first of two meetings between the schools this season, and while the top two teams in the conference battle it out, the rest of the conference will fight not to fall too far behind.

Nebraska Cornhuskers @ Penn State Nitany Lions
Saturday, 1:00 PM ET

Two tams that won’t contend in the Big Ten this season are Nebraska and Penn State, which play eachother this Saturday afternoon with a place in the Big Ten basement on the line for the loser.

The Nitany Lions are currently holding that spot down with just a pair of conference wins this season, but both of them came at home and the Cornhuskers have just one Big Ten road win in five tries so far. Junior Tim Frazier continues to pace Penn State at both ends of the floor, but if they are going to come up with a big win at home they will need more of a contribution from their depth players. In this situation, it simply makes more sense to take the points given to the Betonline underdog.

(12) Michigan State Spartans @ (3) Ohio State Buckeyes
Saturday, 6:00 PM ET

The most highly anticipated matchup of the weekend has the third-ranked Buckeyes hosting the 12th-ranked Spartans, in what could be one of the last obstacles remaining on Ohio State’s road to a conference title. Jared Sullinger has been a force all year for a Buckeyes’ team that has scored a ton of points, but he hasn’t done it alone with William Buford continuing to step up with his play at both ends of the floor, and the emergence of sophomore guard Aaron Craft. The pay head bookie underdogs Michigan State has remained in contention with their focus and determination, but they scored just 41 points against Illinois in their last road game, and have dropped three-straight against unranked opponents away from home.

Illinois Fighting Illini @ (25) Michigan Wolverines
Sunday, 1:00 PM ET

Buyer beware when it comes to those willing to jump on the Spartans without caution, as Illinois has already provided some memorable upsets so far this season. In fact, the Fighting Illini’s last two wins have come against ranked opponents and the top two teams in the Big Ten in Michigan State and Ohio State, yet they are one of the hardest teams to project with home losses to Northwestern and Wisconsin. However, Illinois hasn’t been very good on the road and the Wolverines are in a position of desperation after losing to both the Buckeyes and Spartans, so look for the home team to cover the per head number and pull out a crucial win.
