2012 Best Odds at Winning BCS TitleEarlier this month, college sports betting enthusiasts were left wanting more, after one of the most lackluster BCS Bowl games since the NCAA instituted the format almost 14 years ago. The Alabama Crimson Tide won their second National Title in three seasons when they destroyed the LSU Tigers 21 to nothing. During the game, the Crimson Tide defense stepped to the forefront, as they did not allow the LSU offense to make it over the 50 yard line. However, while the price per head fans of Alabama and LSU were thrilled to watch their teams battle it out for the nations top championship, the rest of the NCAA watched with a foul taste in their mouths. Essentially, under the current BCS format, the two best teams in the country ranked first and second are supposed to face one another. In other years, the first and second ranked teams have also been the champions of their specific conferences they naturally reside in. Yet, this season, the top two ranked teams came from the same conference, despite Alabama, not only not being the SEC Champion, but not even being placed in the SEC Championship game. In other words, the two best teams didn’t actually face each other for the BCS National Title game.

Instead, two teams with really good defenses and a slew of money faced off for the National Title.

With the lackluster asterisk blowout being over, it is now time for bookie software users to look ahead to next season. In nine months this article will be long forgotten, as we reconsider how to make the BCS National Title game fairer. Some people argue playoffs, some people argue that politics shouldn’t play a factor in the decision. Either way, fans, media and NFL scores followers alike will have different opinions, on how to fix the BCS. Here is a look at some of the teams with the best odds to win the National Title next year.

In theory, either Alabama or LSU should own the best odds at a National Title bid in 2013, since they were the finalists this past season. But, after the stinker that was put in place of the National Title game, a team without a BCS Bowl Game berth this season due to suspension opened up as the favorite for next year. With the expected return of quarterback Matt Barkley receivers Robert Woods and Marquis Lee, tailback Curtis McNeal and the entire defense of this past season, the USC Trojans own six to one odds to win the National Title. Barkley’s return in particular was of interest to many fans and bookmakers alike, as the young pivot elected to stay in school for another year, instead of be a top 10 draft pick in this season’s NFL draft. For the reason that the entire USC team is returning, and they ended the season on a six game win streak, they seem like the safest choice for a National Title run in 2012 – 13.
