Despite outscoring the aforementioned Tigers, 24-0, in the fourth quarter last week in Memphis to secure a 41-35 victory and move out of the Conference USA East basement, the Blazers are another double-digit home dog that we want no part of (there must be something in the water this week). Neil Callaway’s crew are not exactly known as strong fi nishers (1-3 SU, 0-4 ATS in the fi nal two games of the season since 2009) and are just 1-5 ATS after their annual battle with Memphis to avoid the conference cellar. That’s a far different perspective from Larry Fedora’s Golden Eagles who occupy the Eastern penthouse for the first time in five years and can clinch the division with a win tonight in Legion Field. And while the Eagles are eyeing a sure win at home next week against Memphis, don’t expect them to overlook the Blazers. Despite outgaining UAB by over 100 yards last year, Southern’s defense was undressed in a 50-49 loss at home as 10-point chalk. However, the Golden Ones have covered three of the last four on this field and with Fedora 8-2 ATS off back-to-back SU wins versus .666 or less conference opposition, look for them to improve to 5-1 ATS in ‘LRG’s and set up a December 3rd date with Case Keenum and the Houston Cougars for the league crown. We have no problem laying it in Birmingham. The Golden Eagles are listed as 23½-point favorites against the Blazers, and the game's total is sitting at 62½.
