While heads are rolling throughout the world of college coaching, Wyoming’s Dave Christensen bucked the trend and managed to save his job.

The Pokes went to a bowl in Christensen’s first betting season at Laramie (2009) then landed tits up in a ditch the following year after a 3-9 disaster.

And while this may not have been a make-or-break season for DC, he removed all doubt by directing the Cowboys to a solid 8-4 campaign in 2011 – winning all four games where the deciding margin was 3 points or less.

Kudos, as well, to opposing coach Steve Addazio.

He inherited a Temple squad that was shockingly denied a bowl bid last year despite an 8-4 record but managed to earn an invitation to Albuquerque today in his first season with the Owls (ironically with the same 8-4 mark).

Like the Cowboys, Temple prospered in tight games: with the exception of a 23-point beatdown by Toledo, the Cosby clan lost three contests by a total of just 11 points.

At first glance, there’s a huge defensive disparity favoring the Owls in this matchup. Temple managed to hold three of its first seven foes to season-low yards while Wyoming was being chased up and down the field in six of its fi rst eight contests.

However, a closer look warns us that the head-swivelers from Philly were outgained in four of their fi nal five games to conclude the season – while the Pokes stampeded to the fi nish with a 4-0 ‘In The Stats’ run.

Addazio’s team also faced a terribly weak schedule in 2011 as Temple’s lined foes have not impressed with a 45-71 SU effort this year. Our database delivers the clincher with this beauty: Cowboys coach Christensen is 14-3-1 ATS as a dog of fewer than 20 points – including 6-0 ATS off a SU win.

Why lay the lumber with a team that was sliding at season’s end against one that’s lathered up and ready for more? We’ll back the underdog playing the better ball.

Sportsbooks currently have the Owls listed as 7½-point favorites versus the Cowboys, while the game's total is sitting at 46½.
