NCAA Football Odds: Notre Dame Big Favorite against South Florida

Notre Dame Big Favorite against South FloridaJust how good is USF’s Skip Holtz as an underdog, you ask? Mighty, we answer.

Consider this: in his college football head-coaching career, the Skipper has been installed as a puppy 38 times. His teams have emerged victorious in one-half of those games on the field, going 19-19 SU and 27-10-1 ATS overall, including 4-0 ATS in season openers.

And thanks to Notre Dame’s ‘public team’ status when it comes to the betting line, we know the oddsmaker will continue to spot us an extra point or two with ND’s opponents… especially at home.

There’s no doubt 2nd-year head coach Brian Kelly is waking up the echoes in South Bend but we don’t think the Irish are improved enough to warrant some of their lofty preseason rankings.

Notre Dame is a big favorite on this match: -11 (-110), Total 47 at sportsbooks.

Kelly may have staved off a dreaded ‘two-headed QB’ situation in South Bend by declaring Dayne Crist the starter ahead of Tommy Rees but we’re concerned that Kelly may yank Crist early if things don’t go according to plan.

The Golden Domers also bring some stale ATS numbers to today’s picnic, going 0-6 ATS at Notre Dame Stadium versus Big East opposition, 1-6 ATS as chalk of 8 or more points and 2-5 ATS recently in Game One.

Of course, we can’t overlook the ‘Holtz Connection’ here, either: just imagine how often Papa Lou has been glued to his son’s ear this offseason, feeding him bits and morsels on exactly how to take down his beloved Irish!

Making a win even sweeter for Skip is the fact that he’s a Notre Dame alum and served as an assistant coach under his dad at South Bend.Look for the Bulls’ B.J.

Daniels to prove that one good quarterback is better than two – because when you have TWO QB’s, you have NONE. A solid take.
