The current betting line is Golden Bears listed as 3½-point favorites against the Buffaloes, and the total is sitting at 48½. Taking a cue from the “New Head Coaches Are Moneyburners” wisdom of last week’s, our insightful database tells us that new coaches in home openers tend to struggle – especially against opponents off a SU and ATS win, where they’ve logged a miserable 6-25 ATS record. And Cal’s opening-week win over Fresno State was certainly an attention-getter. The Golden Bears cruised to a 413- 210 total yards advantage, averaged 6.0 yards per offensive play and smothered the Bulldogs rushing attack, limiting FSU to a paltry 68 yards on 25 carries. First-year Buffaloes coach Jon Embree will be glad to be back in Boulder for his initial home game… unless someone tells him CU has covered just ONCE in its last nine home openers. We’re also certain that Embree was thankful not to be a part of last year’s meeting at Berkeley: Jeff Tedford’s squad absolutely ran roughshod over the Buffs in a 52-7 laugher. Like last year, these Bears look downright golden today. Trends to consider:
