MAACO Las Vegas Bowl Free Pick: Arizona State vs. Boise State

Just for ‘kicks’, Boise State will be hitting Las Vegas for the second straight bowl season. Like last year, a missed field goal cost the Broncos a BCS payday and a maybe even a spot in the national championship game this season.
Arizona State hopes to give fired coach Dennis Erickson one final win.
It most definitely cost QB Kellen Moore a Heisman invite and that’s a shame as the senior tossed 41 TD’s this year while becoming the FBS career leader in wins with 49.
While we do think that Moore will end his tremendous college campaign with a 50-3 mark as a starter, the question becomes do the Broncos enter Sin City as a lounge act or do the stars come out to play and take out a couple of years of frustration against a mediocre opponent with a lame-duck coach?
While we realize that the Blue Man Group is without a doubt tonight’s headliners, our betting sports news (BSN Sports) database feels that they just may pull a ‘Houdini’ from a cover standpoint as it notes: teams off a spread loss returning to the same bowl game are just 12-20 ATS.
And while the Broncos have held 11 foes to season-low yardage over the last two seasons, including four this year, they have dropped six in a row to the number.
Amazingly, that’s not nearly as bad as a Sun Devils’ squad who arrive in Sam Boyd Stadium having lost four games in a row, all as a favorite – the first bowl team ever in this role.
In fact, only three teams since 1980 have hit the alleys off three SU favorite losses and these squads boast a 3-0 SU and 2-1 ATS record.
And when you consider that the last four teams off a SU favorite loss are a perfect 4-0 SU and ATS in their respective bowl games, you can see why we’re ‘kicking’ around the idea of grabbing the double digits in what amounts to Dennis Erickson’s sendoff.
We’ll roll the dice with the Devils and hope that they don’t get their asses – you guessed it – kicked!
Sportsbooks currently have the Broncos listed as 11½-point favorites against the Sun Devils, and the game's total is sitting at 65.
