In the SEC, there’s no rest for the weary. Well, very little. After passing their opening hurdle against Oregon at Cowboys Stadium, the Tigers were in standing broad jump mode at home last week against Northwestern State in a 49-3 walkthrough. The baton now takes them to the conference highway for the first time this betting season and it won’t be easy as the angry Bulldogs – who were probably caught looking ahead to this home opener – are lying in wait following their upset loss at Auburn. LSU has had its way in this series (13-1 SU, 11-3 ATS) since the early 90’s, especially in Davis Wade Stadium where they boast an 8-1 SU and ATS mark. And while Dan Mullen’s 0-9 SU and 2-7 ATS record versus greater than .750 opposition tells us we can expect more of the same, the Tigers’ 1-4 ATS weekday log along with their 2-6 ATS mark in the first of back-to-back roadies says ‘not so fast.’ Our betting database also suggests this won’t be the usual sprint for the visitors as teams in home openers in Game Three of the season that allow 29 or less PPG on the year are 14-5-1 ATS when hosting a conference foe. With Mullen’s men recording over 300 yards on the ground in each of their first two contests, look for this Thursday tilt to grind right down to the wire. We’ll start the week on the take tonight in Starkville. Sportsbooks currently have the Tigers listed as 3½-point favorites versus the Bulldogs, while the game's total is sitting at 49.
