Penn State without his long time coach Joe Paterno that was fired by the university's board of trustees on Wednesday night.

What a bummer. Despite poor numbers and lethargic play on the field, the Lions sit atop the Big Ten Leaders division with a two-game lead – but Penn State’s quest to remain perfect in conference play today will undoubtedly be eclipsed by the sordid scandal that has exploded in not-so-Happy Valley.

The details surrounding former Penn State football coach Jerry Sandusky’s alleged abuse of eight minors continue to unfold and many sports journalists are opining that the shocking events could was the end of legendary head coach Joe Paterno.

Bob Ford of The Philadelphia Inquirer wrote, “Joe Paterno is done… he cannot and should not survive the mess that has engulfed his football program” and Mike Wise of the Washington Post stated that Joe Pa should be asked, “While you were regaling everyone with sappy tales about meeting your wife 50 years ago over ice cream in State College, Pa., did you have any idea what your longtime defensive coordinator was doing in the company of young boys?” Ughhh.

But even with all the ‘guilt by association’ talk surrounding Paterno now, if there’s one coach in college football that can get his team to tune out negative chatter and focus on the business at hand, it’s Joe Shades.

He’ll need tothe Lions are just 1-4 SU and ATS in their last five appearances as home dogs and have cashed in only one of their previous five Last Home Games of the betting season.

Nebraska owns no edge in the series (2-3 SU and 1-4 ATS) but head coach Bo Pelini is 10-6 SU and ATS versus .800 > opponents.

The visitor is also a dependable 21-11-1 ATS in Pelini’s games and the feeling here is the Huskers will benefit from the on-campus turmoil at PSU – regardless of Joe’s attempts at damage control.

We’re steering clear of this mess… and suggest you do the same.
