2011 College Football Week 9 Virginia Tech Hokies vs. Duke Blue Devils PicksThe Virginia Tech Hokies and the Duke Blue Devils will meet on Saturday at Wallace Wade Stadium. Join Now to Bet on this Game!

Looks like that 23-3 Clemson shocker over the Hokies back on October 1st gave Frank Beamer’s team the wake-up call they needed.

Va Tech has scored 38, 38 and 30 points in a trio of successive wins over ACC opponents.

Unfortunately for Hokie backers, that success has not been duplicated in the ATS department: Beamer’s bunch is an uncharacteristic 1-6 ATS in 2011 versus lined foes (VT went 17-8-1 against the number in the previous two seasons).

But sooner or later the perfect victim is bound to stumble into the Hokies’ path and it looks like Duke more than fits the description.

This is the kind of foe Beamer chews up and spits out with regularity: he’s lit a fire under the Blue Devils in seven straight meetings, going 7-0 SU while winning by an average score of 37-10.

As expected, Tech has gobbled up all the good ATS numbers in today’s game. The Techsters are an eye-popping 10-0 SU and 9-1 ATS on the road versus conference opponents off a loss and playing with revenge, plus they’ve gone 6-1 ATS of late in the first of back-to-back road trips.

Meanwhile, Duke owns a sorry 1-13 SU and 3-10-1 ATS record at Wallace Wade Stadium from Game Eight out.

And a poor series history (3-7 ATS last 10, 1-3 ATS last four home) tells us the Blue Devils seldom put up their dukes against foes of this caliber.

Sure, Duke has improved under fourth year head coach David Cutcliffe but there’s only one way to look here – and it doesn’t rhyme with puke. Hokies kick off Halloween weekend by performing some ‘Chain Saw Massacre’ action on the outclassed hosts.

Oddsmakers currently have the Hokies listed as 14-point favorites versus the Blue Devils, while the game's total is sitting at 51½.
