College Football Week 7 Picks: Gamecocks, Mountaineers Focused On Tough Weekend Ahead

College Football Week 7 PicksSix weeks of college football betting action has taught us a lot about what we can expect this season, even though there have been some notable upsets to point to so far. While the top-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide has held down its No. 1 spot, the rest of the top-five shifted again this past week with the South Carolina Gamecocks and West Virginia Mountaineers each getting well-deserved recognition, climbing to No. 3 and No. 5 respectively. Both programs face tough tests again this week with the Gamecocks traveling to LSU and the Mountaineers playing at Texas Tech, two matchups that should earn their place under the sports betting spotlight on another busy weekend. #5 West Virginia Mountaineers (-3.5) @ Texas Tech Red Raiders
Saturday, 3:30 PM ET

West Virginia is off to its best start in six online sportsbook years, and Heisman trophy candidate Geno Smith is the biggest reason for it.

Smith has thrown for over 900 yards and 12 touchdowns in his last two games alone, and will give the Mountaineers a strong chance to win their sixth-straight game when they visit Texas Tech this Saturday. The Mountaineers are averaging 570.8 yards per game and 52 points to rank third and fifth in the country, but the problem has been a defense that barely helped them get by both Baylor and Texas in consecutive weeks. Fortunately the spread is down to 3.5, which should not be a problem so long as West Virginia wins considering this team just scores a ton of touchdowns.

College Football Betting Pick: Mountaineers – 3.5

#11 USC Trojans (-11.5) @ Washington Huskies
Saturday, 7:00 PM ET

A tough time on the road through the first half of the season has prevented the preseason No. 1 from reaching its potential so far in 2012, and the Trojans still have one more tough test before a much easier schedule through the second half. USC will travel to Washington this Saturday for another hostile PAC-12 road game, no easy task considering that the Huskies are undefeated in their temporary home at CenturyLink Field. Washington is coming off its worst loss of the season against the No. 2 Oregon Ducks, and while they may not be able to squeeze out a win this game should at least be close enough that they will cover the Betonline spread.

College Football Betting Pick: Washington Huskies + 11.5

#3 South Carolina Gamecocks @ #9 LSU Tigers (-2.5)
Saturday, 8:00 PM ET

The Gamecocks are another team enjoying its best start in years, and a blowout 35-7 win over rivals Georgia last week was even more reason to celebrate. However, last weekend’s performance won’t do much to help South Carolina this week as it takes on an LSU team coming off its first non-bowl game loss since 2010. The Tigers have won 21-straight games at home and need a victory to keep their slim national title hopes alive.
