When the oddmakers opened the line for the Cowboys Classic, the Alabama Crimson Tide was came up as the 10 point favorite and throughout the week escalated to 14 points before game day. At the same time boxing star Mayweather decided to place a $3 million dollar bet on the Wolverines at -14.

Reno Gold, college football picks expert, said in regards to the famous bet by Mayweather, "“Floyd Mayweather might be one of the best boxers of all time but I would not follow his college football betting advice.“ Later he added "The only thing he has going for him at this point is that everyone already jumped on Alabama moving the line from -10 to -14 points. I gave out the Crimson Tide -10 points back when the opening number was posted and it clearly moved in my favor. Proof my picks move the line more than Floyd’s! If he keeps making bets like this he will be forced to box until he is 50 years old to pay off the bookies in Vegas!” In the end, Reno was right to assess the situation the way he did and Mayweather had to absorb the loss.
