Oregon vs Oregon State Pick at BSN SportsFlorida Alabama lines are getting most of the NCAA betting attention this week but there’s another can’t-miss game before Saturday’s big matchup. On Thursday we’ll see two Oregon teams battle for a Rose Bowl Berth in the rivalry game known as the “Civil War.” Let’s get our football picks going.

(13) Oregon State Beavers vs (7) Oregon Ducks

Thursday, December 3, 9:00 p.m. ET

Online sportsbook favorite: Oregon -9.5

The plucky Oregon State Beavers are braving waters not traveled for a long time; a win over their Pac-10 rival Oregon would give the Beavers their first Rose Bowl berth in 65 years. After getting drubbed 65-38 the last time it faced Oregon, however, Oregon State is a major underdog.

The Beavers bring a legitimately threatening offense to the Pac-10 title game. Backed by a great offensive line, Sean Canfield leads the conference in passing yardage. He has good playmakers around him too in the Rodgers brothers; Jacquizz was deadly in the running game, averaging 119.4 yards per game and scoring 19 times, while James led the team with 77 catches for eight scores. It’s no surprise that Oregon State has outscored opponents 121-45 in its last three wins.

It’s tough to predict how the Ducks will handle the Beaver attack. Oregon ranks a respectable 27th in nation-wide defense but got torched for 51 points by Stanford, 41 by Arizona and 36 by Purdue. The Ducks are susceptible to well-oiled offenses.

Thankfully for Oregon, it can match Oregon State offensively and then some. The Ducks’ high-octane offense features lots of misdirection and averages 42 points per game within the Pac-10. Quarterback Jeremiah Masoli and running back LaMichael James form a potent rushing tandem, running for 23 scores and averaging a combined 180 rushing yards per game.

The X-factor – and the reason why Oregon State could pull the upset and beat the spread – is the Beavers’ outstanding run defense. They’re tops in the Pac-10, allowing just 98.4 rushing yards per game. They’ll try to bottle up James and force Masoli to pass more.

Oregon is a deserving favorite but bettors shouldn’t underestimate the Beavers, especially fresh off a bye week. Pick Oregon State to keep this game close and beat the spread.

College football betting pick: Oregon State +9.5
