At any of several betting websites you visit, you're going to get conflicting opinions on a game that is a pick 'em at the present moment. A reasonable legal online sports betting perspective could go in either direction when sizing up this tilt, one which will likely determine the Big Ten Leaders Division champion for 2012.

The Wisconsin Badgers and the Purdue Boilermakers are not mysteries in the sense that they're part of the Big Ten, widely acknowledged as a conference that's having a terrible year.

When viewed within a national context, Wisconsin and Purdue clearly fail to match up with the upper-tier teams from other power conferences. Mediocrity is a defining characteristic of each team, but now, the Badgers and Boilermakers must clash on the same field and define themselves within the more narrow confines of Big Ten competition.

Which team is better? This question might not be particularly interesting to national college football fans, but within the Big Ten community, it's an extremely important one. The winner of this game will gain a huge advantage in the race for the Big Ten Leaders Division championship because Ohio State, the best team in the division, is ineligible for the division championship and the Big Ten title game on Dec. 1 in Indianapolis. Penn State is also ineligible for the Leaders title, leaving only Illinois and Indiana as the other title-eligible teams. Illinois and Indiana are woefully bad, so this tilt between Wisconsin and Purdue carries high stakes.

The fact that Purdue is playing at home should help the Boilermakers, but Purdue hasn't won a share of the Big Ten championship since the 2000 season, while Wisconsin has been a model of consistency. The fact that the Badgers have appeared in each of the past two Rose Bowl games should give Wisconsin a certain measure of confidence in this meeting. That level of emotional capital should come in handy when the fourth quarter arrives. Give Wisconsin a slight edge on Saturday.
