Radio listeners were left slack-jawed a few weeks ago when we suggested this possible scenario: should Houston get by UCLA in Game One and Tulsa to close out the regular betting season, they just might run the table in between and make it to a BCS Bowl (UH faces only ONE winning team in 2011). Regardless, the best news for the Cougars this off-season was the NCAA granting a 6th-year of eligibility for record-setting QB Case Keenum (CUSA Player of the Year in 2008 and 2009). Houston is -3 point favorites against UCLA and the total is set at 61 at Bodog sportsbook. The Cougars’ 2010 campaign went down the drain when Keenum went down with a season- ending knee injury in a 31-13 (as 4-point road chalk) loss to these same Bruins in Game Three last year. The good news for UCLA is a bevy of returning starters (seven on each side of the ball) along with the top seven running backs from last year’s unit. However, HC Rick Neuheisel has yet to name a starter under center, leaving the Bruins with one of those ‘two-headed’ QB situations (Richard Brehaut and Kevin Prince) that never seems to pay dividends. Even though we’re convinced both squads will be ATS money-earners this season, we can’t seem to talk ourselves off the fence in this matchup. Like a patient voyeur, we’ll watch for now.
