College Football Betting: Bowl Season Continues As BCS Championship Game Approaches

College Football Bowl Games BettingAs the football betting days of December continue to wind down and the BCS Championship game approaches, the postseason action will continue with bowl games to look forward to this weekend across the nation. Here is a quick look at each of those 5Dimes contests.

Beef O’ Bradys St. Petersburg Bowl
Central Florida Knights (-7) vs. Ball State Cardinals
Friday, 7:30 PM ET

The weekend kicks off with the Cardinals looking to carry over the momentum of a six-game win streak after taking the at-large spot created when the Big East could not fill its guaranteed spot. Ball State enters this game playing with a lot of confidence, and should have the edge in intangibles with UCF coming off a heartbreaking loss to Tulsa in the Conference-USA title game. The Knights allowed Tulsa to complete the season sweep with the overtime loss, and while they may be able to salvage a postseason win to help ease that defeat, they will have a tough time covering against a strong Cardinals’ team that is making its first postseason appearance since 2008.

College Football Betting Pick: Ball State + 7

R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl
East Carolina Pirates vs. Louisiana-Lafeyette Ragin’ Cajuns (-5.5)
Saturday, 12:00 PM ET

The Ragin’ Cajuns have the advantage of familiarity in this matchup, as they return to New Orleans after winning this game last season in their first bowl trip in more than four decades. After giving up a touchdown with just 35 second left on the clock, Louisiana-Lafayette drove 49 yards over four plays to set up the game-winning field goal that clinched a 32-30 victory over San Diego State in last season’s contest. This year’s team will look to make it a lot less exciting as they clash with an East Carolina program that is looking for its first bowl win since 2007 after missing out at the opportunity at one the past couple of years, and the combination of high-scoring offenses and terrible defenses should mean lots of action. Louisiana-Lafayette heated up down the stretch with three-straight college football betting wins to close out the season, and should be able to cover less than a touchdown.

College Football Betting Pick: Louisiana-Lafeyette – 5.5

MAACO Las Vegas Bowl
Washington Huskies vs. #19 Boise State Broncos (-5.5)
Saturday, 3:30 PM ET

19th-ranked Boise State is another team making a repeat appearance in a bowl game, having won the MAACO Las Vegas Bowl in each of the past two years. The Broncos knocked off Utah and Arizona State by a combined 55 points in those two sports betting contests, but should face a tougher challenge from a Huskies’ team that finished above .500 in the PAC-12 this season. This is also a preview of next year’s season opener as Washington will clash with Boise State to kick off the 2013 schedule, and it’s unlikely the Huskies will be looking forward to that game once this powerful Broncos’ offense is done in what will be a third-straight MAACO Las Vegas Bowl win.
