Betting on Utep vs. New Mexico State Odds, Lines & Point Spreads

Betting the Texas El Paso Miners vs. New Mexico State AggiesTalk about a shocker that came out of nowhere. New Mexico State’s 28-21 upset of Minnesota as 23-point road dogs was stunning not only to the betting public, but to viewers as well when Gophers’ head coach Jerry Kill suffered a seizure near game’s end.

Kill is recovering nicely but his medical scare at game’s end overshadowed the fact that the woeful Aggies, winners of just two games last year against equally awful New Mexico and San Jose State, had presented head coach DeWayne Walker with the school’s first victory over a Big Ten school – and a win over his Alma Mater.

Let’s hope he enjoyed it because we see the NMSU win streak screeching to a halt against the Miners. Join Now to Bet on this Game!

UTEP was favored over the Aggies by 14 points in its last visit to Las Cruces (2009) and by 15.5 points at home last year in this betting series.

Thus, this line represents value-a-plenty to the Miners. That’s good for HC Mike Price because he lost starting QB Nick Lamaison to a separated shoulder last interesting starts in 2011. Norm Chow’s usually productive offensive scheme didn’t quite click in the Utes’ opener against Montana State (passed for only 101 yards) but seemed pick up the pace in last week’s narrow loss to USC when QB Jordan Wynn completed 23 passes for 238 yards.

Not to be outdone, the boys from Provo are coming off a pair of wild one- point decisions – a win over Ole Miss and a loss to Texas. From a numbers perspective, the view in Salt Lake City is much clearer. Utah has held a recent series edge, going 5-2 ATS in the last seven meetings and covering seven of the last nine on this field.

The Utes are also armed with some 9-1 ATS ammunition as road dogs taking on an opponent off a loss.

Meanwhile, BYU has bumbled to a shameful 1-10 ATS mark as a home favorite of less than 14 points off consecutive away games.

We also like the fact that the Cougars offense, which averaged over 42 points per game in the final five contests of 2011, has managed only 30 total points in two outings. Note: watch this line carefully; if it should move to BYU -6 or less, the Cougars own a 6-1 ATS record as chalk in that price range.

New Mexico State Aggies are favorites by 3 points and the total for the game is set at 47½.
