The Nevada Wolf Pack and the Southern Miss Golden Eagles will meet on December 24 at Aloha Stadium in the Sheraton Hawaii Bowl.
Larry Fedora may be leaving Southern Miss for North Carolina but he sure didn’t leave Conference USA any parting gifts.
In fact, the Eagles’ upset of previously unbeaten Houston cost the Cougars a BCS bowl berth and the conference a rare huge payday.
And while we do like the fact that Fedora is only one of two head men (Erickson being the other) – not including interim coaches (Withers, Fickell) – that will fi nish the job with their ‘former’ teams, we don’t like the idea that this is the Eagles first ever ‘let’s get lei’d vacation.’
Yes, Nevada is just 1-7 SU and ATS in their last eight visits to Aloha Stadium but veteran HC Chris Ault should have a huge advantage in terms of travel preparation.

Just for ‘kicks’, Boise State will be hitting Las Vegas for the second straight bowl season. Like last year, a missed field goal cost the Broncos a BCS payday and a maybe even a spot in the national championship game this season.
Arizona State hopes to give fired coach Dennis Erickson one final win.
It most definitely cost QB Kellen Moore a Heisman invite and that’s a shame as the senior tossed 41 TD’s this year while becoming the FBS career leader in wins with 49.
While we do think that Moore will end his tremendous college campaign with a 50-3 mark as a starter, the question becomes do the Broncos enter Sin City as a lounge act or do the stars come out to play and take out a couple of years of frustration against a mediocre opponent with a lame-duck coach?

Apparently a few people failed to live up to their ‘Humanitarian’ obligations as this former bowl of the same name now becomes the ‘Famous’ Idaho Potato Bowl.
It’s certainly no surprise to see the Aggies here, not after their sizzling start to the season at Auburn where they came within a hair of upsetting the defending national champs on their home fi eld, falling late by a 42-38 score.
Ohio, too, got off to a fast start, opening 3-0 for fi rst time since 1996. The Bobcats then ran smack into a 1-3 wall before closing out the regular season with fi ve straight conference wins to bag a spot in the MAC title game.
A word of caution… Ohio could be suffering the after-affects of losing the championship battle to Northern Illinois, 23-20 – a game in which the Bobcats led 20-0 late in the 3rd quarter.

The University Stadium will be the place to watch Temple Owls and the Wyoming Cowboys fight aganist each other on December 17 in the Gildan New Mexico Bowl.
While heads are rolling throughout the world of college coaching, Wyoming’s Dave Christensen bucked the trend and managed to save his job.
The Pokes went to a bowl in Christensen’s first betting season at Laramie (2009) then landed tits up in a ditch the following year after a 3-9 disaster.
And while this may not have been a make-or-break season for DC, he removed all doubt by directing the Cowboys to a solid 8-4 campaign in 2011 – winning all four games where the deciding margin was 3 points or less.
Kudos, as well, to opposing coach Steve Addazio.
