2011 PAC 12 Championship Betting: UCLA Bruins vs. Oregon Ducks Odds

UCLA Bruins vs. Oregon Ducks Odds PicksThe UCLA Bruins and the Oregon Ducks will meet on Friday at Autzen Stadium in the Pac-12 Championship Game in a betting game televised on Fox.

When Colorado and Utah jumped ship to help form the new Pac-12 Conference in 2011, league leaders were beaming like proud parents at the news that a first-ever conference championship game would put the fi nishing touches on regular betting season play.

However, they’re not smiling any more… not after a 4-straight-loss collapse by Arizona State (adios Dennis Erickson) thrust a mediocre 6-6 UCLA squad into the Big Game – where the Bruins were promptly made prohibitive 30-point underdogs to the host Ducks.

Granted, not all the other conference title games are guaranteed nail-biters: two contests feature double-digit lines with a third (Wisconsin) opening as 9.5-point favorite chalk.

But with the Bruins taking the field off a 50-0 annihilation at Southern Cal – the program’s WORST loss to USC since 1930 – it’s apparent that advertisers will not be paying top dollar for air time during this unfortunate mismatch.

Plus, there’s a good chance that turmoil may reign on the UCLA sidelines as head coach Rick Neuheisel was offi cially given the boot on Monday (this game will be his last).

Both coaches own some decent numbers in today’s role. The Slickster is 9-3 ATS off a loss of 25 or more points, including 4-0 ATS versus a foe off a win of more than 20 points, while Oregon’s Chip Kelly is 9-0 SU and 6-3 ATS as chalk of 21 or more points.

And though recent series results (7-1 SU and 8-0 ATS off a SU win) refl ect the Ducks’ obvious superiority, our objective database sends out this word of warning: college conference championship game favorites of more than 10 points are just 6-14 ATS, including 3-5 SU and 1-7 ATS when off a win of more than 20 points (five of the eight prohibitive favorites were apple-carted!).

The last meeting between these schools in 2010 resulted in a 60-13 bombardment by the aerially-minded Webfeet and with the Bruins losing by 36 points to Arizona, 25 points to Utah and 50 to the Trojans this season, a similar result is not out of the question.

Still, we can’t lay the big lumber here with the Rose Bowl on the line, even with a team from the timber-rich Pacific Northwest.

UCLA wins one more for the Slickster… against the spread, that is.

Oddsmakers currently have the Oregon listed as 29½-point favorites against UCLA, and the game's total is sitting at 65.
