NBA Picks: Weekend Preview For Games On Saturday, March 9

NBA Betting Weekend previewGame 1: Houston Rockets @ Phoenix Suns – Saturday, March 9

Whether you want to become a bookie or not, you have to admit that the clash between the Houston Rockets and Phoenix Suns – while certainly leaning toward the Rockets – could still become a little complicated. Yes, Houston is unquestionably the better team. The Rockets have far more scoring options than the Suns and can therefore provide more answers at crunch time. Yet, Houston will be coming off a late game on Friday, March 8 against the Golden State Warriors, a team that loves to get up and down the court. Yes, Phoenix will have played on Friday night as well in Sacramento, but the Kings do not figure to exact the same physical toll on the Suns that the Warriors will take on the Rockets. Houston's legs could be dead in this game, and with Phoenix playing at home, the Suns – who did, one should note, win in San Antonio against the Spurs a week ago – are certainly capable of pulling the upset. Ultimately, go with Houston, but don't expect this game to be a blowout by any stretch.

My Pick: Houston

Game 2: New Orleans Hornets @ Memphis Grizzlies – Saturday, March 9

When immersed in the world of legal online sports betting, it's always important to assess teams on their raw merits, and in this tilt with a distinctly Southern NBA flavor, Memphis is the team with noticeably superior credentials and talent. Any respected betting establishment will assign good odds to the Grizzlies in this contest. Memphis, for all the ways in which it has fallen behind the top three teams in the Western Conference (San Antonio, Oklahoma City, and the Los Angeles Clippers) has taken care of business against bad teams over the past four weeks. The Grizzlies have encountered the soft part of their schedule, which does indeed make it important to say that Memphis is not an elite team; yet, when being handed a favorable slate of games in recent weeks, the Grizzlies have gone out and done the job. Yes, you do not have to call Memphis an elite team, but you should definitely pick the Grizzlies to take care of the Western Conference's also-rans, New Orleans very much being one of them.

My Pick: Memphis

Game 3: Milwaukee Bucks @ Golden State Warriors – Saturday, March 9

When the Bucks travel to Oakland to take on the Warriors, electricity will be in the air. That sentence seems so odd; Bucks-Warriors does not seem like a very big deal within the larger context of the NBA season, and actually, that's true on a national level. However, this game will be a major attraction for people in the San Francisco Bay Area who root for Golden State. Former Warrior Monta Ellis will make his regular season return to Oakland as a member of the Milwaukee roster. Former Milwaukee big man Andrew Bogut, who just did return to the Golden State lineup this past week, will get to play against his old team as well. Golden State has the horses in this matchup; the Warriors do what Milwaukee does, only better. Stephen Curry should be able to outscore Ellis on a night when Oakland basketball fans will be ready to roar for the Warriors.

My Pick: Golden State
