NBA Betting: The Western Conference Heats Up

NBA BettingAs the NBA season starts to wind down, the jockeying for position at the top of each conference is interesting to watch. The online betting experts are especially interested in tracking what happens to the Los Angeles Clippers, Oklahoma City Thunder and San Antonio Spurs at the top of the Western Conference. While the Miami Heat run away with the Eastern Conference regular season crown, the betting sites know that things will not be so cut and dry in the west. As this weekend rolls around, it will be interesting to watch how the top teams in the Western Conference continue to perform.

Saturday – Houston Rockets @ Phoenix Suns

The Rockets currently hold on to the seventh spot in the Western Conference and can feel the heat from the teams trying to fight their way up. The Rockets is in a battle with the Jazz for seventh and eighth spot, while the Los Angeles Lakers are also trying to force its way into the conversation as well.

The bookies know that the Phoenix Suns have no chance of making the playoffs, but Phoenix can still play the role of spoiler. Phoenix was nursing a three-game winning streak during the week and is fighting for a .500 record at home. This one will not be easy for the Rockets.

My Pick: Phoenix Suns

Saturday – Minnesota Timberwolves @ Denver Nuggets

It is amazing how far the Denver Nuggets can climb in the Western Conference standings with no one paying attention at all. The Nuggets currently holds down the fifth spot in the conference, but a few wins strung together could put Denver in a position to threaten the Clippers for third. Minnesota is in the same spot as the Suns in that the best the Timberwolves can hope for is to be a spoiler. But judging by the way the Nuggets has been playing lately, the Wolves will not be spoiling this party.

Pick: Denver Nuggets

Sunday – Boston Celtics @ Oklahoma City Thunder

Sportsbook reviews of this game when the schedule first came out had some people wondering if this could be an NBA Finals preview. But the Celtics has found itself in a position that is only two losses from being out of the playoffs. With the Thunder needing every win it can get to try and close the gap between itself and the San Antonio Spurs, there is little doubt that the Thunder will put everything it has into this game. Boston is playing tough lately, but not tough enough to take OKC at home.

My Pick: Oklahoma City Thunder

Sunday – Detroit Pistons @ Los Angeles Clippers

The Clippers is in the unique spot of trying to gain on the Oklahoma City Thunder while also trying to keep the teams below them in the standings at bay. This should be a win that the Los Angeles Clippers will desperately need just to hang on to third in the Western Conference.

My Pick: Los Angeles Clippers
