Dallas Mavericks vs. Chicago Bulls Betting OddsThis Saturday in the Windy City, Derrick Rose and the Bulls get to play host to the NBA’s hottest team; the Dallas Mavericks. The Mavericks are riding a nine game winning streak into tonight’s matchup against Sacramento, in which they are heavily favored; NBA Betting: Dallas -8.5. The Bulls on the other hand have dropped three straight and are in the midst of a tough stretch of their schedule with their playoff hopes riding on their performance. This game is going to be a tough test for the both teams as there are matchup issues for both teams.

Dallas Mavericks (41-21, 2nd in Western Conference) @ Chicago Bulls (31-30, 7th in Eastern Conference)

NBA Odds:

Spread: Dallas -5.5

Over/Under: 202.5

Money Line: Dallas -230, Chicago +175

Key Matchups

Bronze Medal: Luol Deng vs. Shawn Marion

  • Luol Deng returned to the Bulls lineup after sitting out a game with a bum knee and came back with 23 points on 9-16 shooting and 6 rebounds in a losing effort. Deng’s offensive abilities will be needed in this game as the battle between him and one of the league’s better defenders, Shawn Marion, will be key to the Bulls success in this game. Marion is no longer a three point shooter but can guard the bigger, more physical small forwards in the league with his strength and length defensively. Marion is not what he once was, but he has accepted his role with this Mavs team. Deng will have a hard time with Marion, especially if he has a balky knee. This isn’t the most favorable matchup for Deng offensively, but it’s not the worst. Expect Deng to shoulder a big load for the Bulls in this key home game and be up for the challenge.

    Advantage: Bulls

Silver Medal: Derrick Rose vs. Jason Kidd

  • Jason Kidd had a turn back the clocks type of night last week in an overtime win in Atlanta when he put up 19 points, 17 assists and 16 rebounds. This was the first 15-15-15 night in the NBA since Kidd did it in 1996. The last player to do it before that was Magic Johnson in 1989. Kidd is now 36 years old making this feat even more astonishing for the future Hall of Famer.
  • Not to belittle Kidd’s performance, but it was against the Hawks Mike Bibby who has nothing left in the tank defensively and is nowhere near the caliber of a player that Derrick Rose is. Rose is averaging 20.3 points and 5.6 assists a game and is one of the hardest players in the NBA to both guard and beat off the dribble. Kidd’s foot speed is nowhere near what it was and this is a mismatch for him. Expect Rose to have his way with Kidd much like he has with the rest of the defensively challenged point guards in the league.

    Advantage: Bulls

Gold Medal: How do the Bulls compete with Dirk and Haywood without Noah?

  • This is the big question of the game. Joakim Noah is suffering from plantar fasciitis and will be out for the next couple weeks. Brad Miller, Taj Gibson, Chris Richard and Hakim Warrick will have all they can handle down low and up top. Miller, whose game is more of a perimeter game than a low post game, is going to have Dirk on him who plays a similar game, but is a far better player. Expect nothing out of Miller offensively in this one. Defensively, the Bulls are in bad shape. Gibson and Warrick aren’t big enough to bang with the likes of Haywood or easily shoot over the size of Dirk. Without Noah, this is the type of game that the Bulls will struggle mightily inside.

    Advantage: Mavs

Sportsbook Review: Prediction

Expect to see the Mavericks to be able to score at will, Rose will try to will this team to keep up, but expect to see Dirk put this game away by early 4th quarter as the Mavs will cruise on the road.

Final: Mavs 108 – Bulls 86
