NBA Betting: Heat, Bulls, Lakers Face Question Marks Heading In To Busy Weekend

NBA Odds and linesWith the baseball betting season now fully underway, the countdown continues to the NBA playoffs, with the regular season down to establishing position and staying healthy the rest of the way. The Miami Heat, Chicago Bulls, and Los Angeles Lakers all consider themselves to be legitimate championship contenders heading in to this postseason, but all three of those teams have more to worry about than injuries heading in to this weekend.

Miami Heat @ New York Knicks
Sunday, 1:00 PM ET

The fact that the newspapers and sports betting talk shows are comparing the Heat’s record with and without Dwayne Wade in the lineup as though the team might actually be better without him is an absolute joke, and it could end up haunting Miami in the end. One of the biggest problems in the NBA finals was the hesitation that both Wade and Lebron James showed in the clutch, and the last thing the Heat need to be dealing with heading to the playoffs is any nonsense about which superstar means more to the team’s success.

The Knicks have managed to survive at the bottom of the Eastern conference without two of their biggest stars in Amare Stoudamire and Jeremy Lin, and this could be the perfect opportunity for Wade and company to prove just how good they can be as a team and start firing on all cylinders heading in to the final stretch.

Dallas Mavericks @ Los Angeles Lakers
Sunday, 3:00 PM ET

The Mavericks dealt with the biggest issue surrounding their club this past week by cutting ties with Lamar Odom, although the fact that they won’t officially release him means that he won’t get the chance to return to the Lakers before the playoffs get underway. Los Angeles could certainly use a little more depth, and considering the way that Odom played for them during the past couple of pay head seasons it might have been a good fit, but that is water under the bridge at this point. The Lakers have capitalized on their excellent play at home in order to maintain their position among the top-four in the conference, and with home court advantage for the first round of the playoffs on the line, these games will be important for Kobe Bryant and company down the stretch.

Chicago Bulls @ Detroit Pistons
Sunday, 6:00 PM ET

The ongoing saga with reigning NBA MVP Derrick Rose continued this week after he suffered an ankle injury in a loss to the Knicks on Sunday and was forced to sit out in a rematch against New York on Tuesday. Chicago has responded by playing well without its best player for most of the season, but any chance at a run to the NBA finals would take a significant hit without a healthy Rose. The Bulls have had no problem with the lower-tier Eastern conference teams all season with or without Rose, and that should continue this weekend, but there are still major question marks concerning Chicago’s status as one of the sports betting news favorites to get to the NBA finals.
