2013 NBA BettingGame 1: Los Angeles Lakers @ Dallas Mavericks – Sunday, February 24

Whether you want to become a bookie or not, you have to admit that this nationally televised game between the Lakers and Mavericks will contain a fair amount of intrigue. The Lakers, for all their woes, entered the All-Star break just three games behind the Houston Rockets for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. The Dallas Mavericks are trying to catch and then pass the Lakers in the West. Dallas gets this game at home, but Los Angeles is the team that has displayed better form in recent weeks. The wild card in this game is the health of the Lakers' big men, Dwight Howard and Pau Gasol. This is true not just because those players can at times be valuable, but because the Lakers actually function better with a smaller lineup. Howard has certainly been a disruptive presence in the Lakers' lineup, Gasol less so. Ball movement suffers on the Lakers when Howard is in the game, so in many ways, it might benefit Dallas if Howard plays. This ultimately feels like a toss-up, but the Lakers have too many
question on their roster. Dallas will view this game as a must-win, since it trails Los Angeles in the standings. The Mavericks will win by one possession.

NBA Betting Pick: Dallas

Game 2: Golden State Warriors @ Minnesota Timberwolves – Sunday, February 24

When immersed in the world of legal online sports betting, it's always important to take recent form into consideration, and by that measure, Golden State is not an attractive choice in this game. The Warriors entered the All-Star break having lost five games in a row. For the first time all season long, this team looks and feels truly vulnerable. It has lost its competitive edge, and any respected betting website must square with that reality. The Warriors were a terrible team over the past several years because they couldn't defend, and in recent weeks, their defense has collapsed. Houston alone scored 256 points in two wins over Golden State, an average of 128 points per game. The Warriors have been running on empty, and other teams smell blood when taking the court against them.

There is one counterbalance to all of this, however: The All-Star break arrived precisely when Golden State had become exhausted, unable to play defense according to its new standards under head coach Mark Jackson. The extended time off the Warriors have been able to enjoy is precisely what should give them fresh legs… and a win over Minnesota.

NBA Betting Pick: Golden State

Game 3: Sacramento Kings @ New Orleans Hornets – Sunday, February 24

When the Sacramento Kings finish this NBA season, they will pack their bags and move to Seattle to become the new version of the Sonics. They will be motivated to play well for the fans in Sacramento. However, New Orleans delivered a 36-point beatdown of a decent Portland team just before the All-Star break. The Hornets are playing sound defense, and they should be able to lock down the Kings at home. Take New Orleans in this situation.
