NASCAR Speeds In To Darlington

Nascar Betting OddsEven with the emphasis on NHL betting, the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race continues this weekend when new points leader Kevin Harvick and company start their engines at the Darlington Raceway. Harvick overtook four-time defending SCS champion Jimmie Johnson in the points race with a third place finish in last weekend’s race at Richmond. The 29-car led just one lap but managed to secure 170 points, enough to move 10 up on the 48-car after Johnson finished tenth in the race. Johnson started in third, but had his share of troubles throughout the run, extending his winless streak to five after winning three of the first five of the season. It may be coincidental, but Johnson’s run of futility had coincided with  NASCAR’s decision to switch the rear wing, and replace it with the traditional spoiler.

Kyle Busch will look for his second sports book win on the season at Darlington after continuing his domination at Richmond. Busch led an incredible 226 laps on his way to his first trip to Victory Lane in 2010, earning 195 points to rise all the way in to third place in the SCS standings. Busch has now placed in the top-ten in the four consecutive races, and five of the last six, in an impressive season in which he has already earned two top-five’s, and after last week one of the most dominating performances of the year. That has Joe Gibbs, who has signed the 25-year old for several years to come, even happier than this week’s birthday boy.

NASCAR Betting – Who To Avoid At Richmond

Richmond Betting – Saturday, May 1, 7:30 PM ETWhen looking at Kentucky Derby odds, there is always going to be a couple of horses that you should stay away from, and the concept is the same for NASCAR betting.  Here’s who you should avoid for the Crown Royal 400 this Saturday night at Richmond, and a couple of the names on the list may surprise you.

Richmond Betting – Saturday, May 1, 7:30 PM ET

Jimmie Johnson (+500): This may be a strange thing, to rule out the favorite who happens to be a four-time defending champion and three-time winner at Richmond, but most of the No.48 driver’s success has come in the summer race as they’re gearing up for the Chase.  Johnson has one win in the spring, but that was just one of two top-10s in eight spring races here.  He did win last year’s summer race, but that was after a 36th-place finish in the spring.

Kurt Busch (+1200): The older Busch has two top-10s in nine spring races at Richmond, although he wasn’t that far off last year with a 12th-place run.

NASCAR Betting – Five To Avoid At Talladega

NASCAR Betting – Talladega OddsLike Chicago in the NBA’s Bulls vs Cavaliers odds, there are a few drivers that are very unlikely to be victorious at the Aaron’s 499 at Talladega Superspeedway on Sunday afternoon. Some will be caught in the “Big One”, and some will get shuffled out of the draft, but rest assured, there will be some disappointed drivers this weekend.

Talladega Betting – Sunday, April 25, 1:00 PM ET

Kyle Busch (+1000): Yes, he won the 2008 spring race, but that is the only top-10 in 10 Talladega races for the No.18 driver, who finished third in the Sprint Cup race last week in Texas, then followed with a win in the Nationwide series. Busch also has four DNFs here, and he just seems to have bad luck on the 2.66-mile monster that is Talladega.

Jimmie Johnson (+1200): This is the pick that makes us most nervous, because, well, it’s Jimmie Johnson. But the No.48 driver has just one win in 16 trips to Talladega, including seven top-10s, but he also has six DNFs.

NASCAR Betting – Top disappointments of the season…..so far

Written by Gaby Varji

Nascar OddsThose looking at Final Four odds know all about busts and disappointments, as they’ve had to endure a season with the likes of North Carolina and UConn failing to make the NCAA Tournament. It’s still too early to call any of these drivers busts as the season is just two months old, but they need to turn it around quick.

Kyle Busch

His teammate at JGR, Denny Hamlin, would also be on this list if not for his spectacular win at Martinsville, but instead, it’s just Busch, who has just one top-10 this season, and that came at Bristol, which ironically has had his worst starting position. Is Busch stretching himself too thin by trying to defend his Nationwide title, in addition to getting his trucks team off the ground? Oh yeah, he got engaged, too.

Juan Pablo Montoya
