This is It For Many MLB Teams

MLB betting season updateFor many MLB teams chasing a pennant or playoff spot, this weekend represents the last chance these teams will have to make a push. There are some great battles for pennants and wild card spots in both the AL and NL that will come to a head this weekend. These are the races that will come down to the last day of the regular season, and that day is rapidly approaching. There will be plenty of World Series futures changing after this slate of weekend games is over.

Saturday – Baltimore Orioles @ Tampa Bay Rays

The Baltimore Orioles will have to ignore the surging Cleveland Indians if they want to catch the Tampa Bay Rays for the final AL wild card playoff berth. The Orioles will almost need to run the table to catch the Rays and this head to head series is exactly what Baltimore needs to make its final run. Earlier in the season, the betting odds would have been against Baltimore having any chance of catching a Tampa Bay team with a starting pitching rotation that was playing so well. But the Rays have been struggling lately and this could be the weekend series that costs Tampa Bay its playoff spot. The Orioles cannot think about the Indians, who are only one half game out of the final wild card spot. Baltimore has to worry about beating Tampa and being part of the AL playoff picture.

Pick: Baltimore Orioles

Saturday – San Francisco Giants @ New York Yankees

Everywhere the Yankees have gone this season, opposing teams are offering moving tributes to retiring reliever Mariano Rivera. The Boston Red Sox even called Rivera a “worthy opponent” in an emotional salute. But through all of the hoopla, the Yankees still have to win ball games. The New York Yankees have been plagued by injuries all season long, and that continues with the persistent leg issues of Alex Rodriguez. The Giants are eliminated from all playoff contention, but they still started out this week with a three-game winning streak. This is the weekend where the Giants finally put the Yankees out of their misery.

Pick: San Francisco Giants

Saturday – Cincinnati Reds @ Pittsburgh Pirates

The NL Central and the NL wild card race is a mess. The St. Louis Cardinals, Cincinnati Reds and Pittsburgh Pirates are all tangled up together in a statistical nightmare. With the Cardinals tied with the Pirates in wins and losses, that makes every game the Pirates play extremely important. In this game, the Pirates can try to separate themselves from the Cardinals a little while also making life completely miserable for the Cincinnati Reds. The Reds need to continue to win to make sure they stay in the wild card hunt, but it has become apparent that all three of these teams are making the postseason. No matter what happens in this tangled mess, MLB fans are definitely in for an interesting NL playoffs.

Pick: Pittsburgh Pirates
