MLB Betting: The National League Playoff Race

Unlikely NL Division Leaders Continue Fight For Playoff Spots This SaturdayThe National League playoff race has yielded some surprise frontrunners heading in to the final month of the regular season, with the Washington Nationals, Cincinnati Reds, and San Francisco Giants all exceeding expectations at the top of their respective divisions. All three teams will be in action this weekend, and while the Nationals and Reds have an excellent sports betting chance to cushion their division leads, the Giants have a tough draw against the rival Los Angeles Dodgers.

Miami Marlins @ Washington Nationals
Saturday, 1:05 PM ET

This Nationals’ team has already earned the most wins since before the franchise’s move from Montreal to Washington, but has no intentions of settling for its first winning season in almost a decade. With Stephen Strasburg shut down, the Nationals will rely even more on their depth starters including Ross Detwiler, who has been excellent over his last seven starts and gets the call for Saturday’s game.

Detwiler hasn’t allowed more than three earned runs in any of those games and Washington is 5-2 over that span. Miami has relied on several young starters after clearing out a ton of money once it became clear the playoffs were not within reach, and will turn to 21-year old Jacob Turner and his 7.33 ERA in this online sportsbook contest.

MLB Betting Pick: Washington Nationals

Los Angeles Dodgers @ San Francisco Giants
Saturday, 4:05 PM ET

The Dodgers recently loaded up through trades to compete with the Giants for the NL West division, and this weekend’s series will play a big role in whether they are able to catch them this season. The problem for Los Angeles isn’t the players they’ve acquired but the ones that have been with the team all year but have struggled lately, including Saturday’s starter Chris Capuano. Capuano has allowed at least five earned runs in four of his last eight starts, and the Dodgers have gone 2-6 in those games. The Giants will start Matt Cain opposite Capuano, and considering the former has led San Francisco to Bovada wins in each of his last five starts that is really not a good thing for fans of the blue and white.

MLB Betting Pick: San Francisco Giants

Houston Astros @ Cincinnati Reds
Saturday, 7:10 PM ET

The Betonline fact that the Reds have managed to claw their way to one of the best records in baseball even without their best player in Joey Votto is nothing short of amazing. Cincinnati will have a chance to extend its lead over the defending World Series champion St. Louis Cardinals to double digits this weekend, and once again it is a pitching staff that ranks in the top-five in the majors getting the job done. Veteran Bronson Arroyo is among those having a solid year for the Reds, who have won five-straight games that he has started. Houston’s offense is one of the worst in the majors, and Bud Norris doesn’t have the arm to silence an underrated Cincinnati offense that should have Votto back in the lineup.
