2012 Baseball BettingWhile the Baltimore Orioles and Oakland Athletics have helped provide some intrigue to the American League playoff race, the real surprises have come in the National League, where the Washington Nationals and Cincinnati Reds have established themselves as the frontrunners in their respective divisions. The Nationals and Reds have carried over the momentum from strong first halves, and will be in the sports betting spotlight once again this weekend along with an intriguing matchup between the top two teams in the NL West. Los Angeles Dodgers @ San Francisco Giants
Saturday, 4:05 PM ET

A span of eight wins in 10 games helped the Giants claw their way past Los Angeles in the NL West, setting up an important three-game series in the Bay area this weekend. San Francisco’s pitching staff ranks near the top of the majors in both quality 5Dimes starts and ERA despite the struggles of ace Tim Lincecum, and Saturday’s starter Barry Zito has been a part of that with wins in three of his last four decisions.

Zito will get the nod opposite Chad Billingsley for the Dodgers, a matchup that clearly favors the Giants. Billingsley finally ended a five-game losing skid with a win over the St. Louis Cardinals, but as long as Zito brings his best stuff it won’t be long before Billingsley is back in the loss column.

MLB Betting Pick: San Francisco Giants

Washington Nationals @ Milwaukee Brewers
Saturday, 7:10 PM ET

The Nationals have rode the top-ranked pitching staff in the majors to the top of the NL East, and will look to continue their success in Milwaukee this weekend. Washington has won the last three games that Jordan Zimmermann has started, as the 26-year old has allowed just one earned run over his last 18 innings pitched. Zimmermann may not even need to be at his best with Randy Wolf starting for the Brewers. Wolf is 3-6 with a 5.46 ERA, and it won’t help their baseball online betting chances that the Brewers rank in the bottom-third of the majors in batting average.

MLB Betting Pick: Washington Nationals

Cincinnati Reds @ Colorado Rockies
Saturday, 8:10 PM ET

With the reigning World Series champion St. Louis Cardinals looking to repeat, it’s no surprise that the majority of bookies overlooked the Reds as the favorites to win the NL Central. A six-game win streak has helped Cincinnati establish some ground between them and the rest of the division, but don’t expect them to slow down by any means this weekend. Johnny Cueto has been a star in the Reds’ rotation with a 12-5 record and 2.23 ERA, having allowed just three earned runs in his last 18.2 innings pitched. One of the few areas of concern for the Reds this season has been their offense, but that won’t be a problem against Jonathan Sanchez and his 8.01 ERA.
