MLB Baseball Betting: Heavyweights Will Be On The Hill in Philadelphia

Red Sox vs. Phillies Betting oddsEven online horse betting players will have to get in on this “thoroughbred” action on Tuesday in Philadelphia, when you could get a World Series preview featuring a pair of pitchers who have made their name in the postseason. Josh Beckett and Boston will be in the City of Brotherly Love to take on Cliff Lee and the Phillies, so pay close attention: you could see this matchup again in October.

Red Sox vs. Phillies Betting – Tuesday, 7:05 PM ET

Beckett (6-2, 1.86) has missed at least one start due to an illness, but he was lights out in his last outing, tossing a one-hit complete-game shutout in a 3-0 win in Tampa Bay, striking out six with no walks. He still wasn’t fine to start on Saturday against Pittsburgh, but MLB baseball betting players have seen this before: sit out against a lowly team in order to be at your best for a big game, and that could be the case here for Beckett, who is 8-4 in 19 games (17 starts) against the Phillies with a 3.98 ERA, and he is 2-2 in four starts at Citizens Bank Park with a 6.26 ERA.

The 30-year-old is 4-2 in eight road starts in 2011 with a 2.35 ERA.

Lee (8-5, 2.87) has thrown back-to-back complete-game shutouts after blanking St. Louis 4-0 on the road, scattering six hits with four strikeouts and a walk. Lee has been on fire lately, allowing a single run in his last four starts, and it looks like he’s heating up just in time for the summer, which doesn’t bode well for the opposition. The 32-year-old southpaw is 2-4 in 10 meetings with the Red Sox, posting an ERA of 4.06, and he’s been spectacular at home this season, going 6-1 in nine starts with a 1.88 ERA.

MLB betting players may find the Phillies as a slight favorite at home in this contest, as Beckett has been out for a couple of weeks, so he may be a little rusty. The Red Sox have actually won six of their last 10 in Philadelphia, with six games going over the posted total, but it’s tough to bet against Lee with the roll that he’s on, especially with Beckett coming in cold on the other side. Lee will also have a little motivation as he wants to show the Red Sox what they’re missing out on; Boston has been tracking Lee for years now, but he has turned them down on a number of occasions. Surely, he would want to stick it to them a little bit, and being at home, this is the perfect opportunity. Give the edge to Lee and the Phillies in your betting picks.
