Baseball Free PicksAll it took was a couple of pitches inside on Alex Rodriguez and one to actually hit him and suddenly the biggest story in baseball right now turned to a new chapter. The New York Yankees are still 8.5 games back of the American League East leading Boston Red Sox, but Sunday’s win seemed to provide a spark they hope will ignite a positive price per head run continuing with a series against the Tampa Bay Rays this weekend.

Oakland Athletics @ Baltimore Orioles
Saturday, 4:05 PM ET

The Orioles are closer to Boston and Tampa Bay in the AL East standings, but will have a tough time closing the gap with the Oakland Athletics in town fighting for top spot in the AL West. Baltimore had lost three-straight starts with Scott Feldman on the mound before getting back on track with an online sports betting win over the Colorado Rockies in his last start, and will hope to capitalize on an Oakland team traveling across the country for this weekend series.

MLB Betting: Weekend Preview For Games On Saturday, August 24

2013 Baseball OddsThere are some really close pitching matchups on tap for this Saturday in the big leagues, and then there are also some matchups that look lopsided. Let’s take a look at each of them.

Game 1: Washington Nationals @ Kansas City Royals – Saturday, August 24

When surveying the most trusted sports betting sites on the scene, it is prudent to remember that while Washington starting pitcher Jordan Zimmermann has been very strong for the Nationals this season, he’s only part of a team and is therefore limited by what his hitters do. Zimmermann’s ERA remains solid at 3.37, but the Nationals have lost five of the last seven games in which Zimmermann has pitched. Kansas City starter Bruce Chen has started only seven games for the Royals this year, so his sample size in terms of innings pitched is far lower than what Zimmermann – a starter since the beginning of April – can offer. Yet, Chen does have a snappy 2.20 ERA. He pitched poorly this past Sunday against the Detroit Tigers, but then again, he gave up run-scoring hits to Miguel Cabrera.

Bet on BaseballThis is the time of the MLB season when the best sports betting websites start to focus in on individual achievements and team accomplishments. There is plenty to watch out for as the teams take the field Saturday and look to improve their place in the various pennant races. Some of the pennant races are already a foregone conclusion. But there are still some races that the sportsbook agents are keeping a close eye on. Some teams are looking to gain some momentum for the final push towards the postseason, while others are doing their best to stay in the playoff hunt.

Saturday – Detroit Tigers @ New York Mets

For yet another season, the sports book experts are reporting that the New York Mets will not make the playoffs. It seems that not even the expanded wild card format is offering the New York Mets the breaks they need to enjoy at least one postseason game. The Detroit Tigers, on the other hand, look like they will be enjoying another trip to the postseason and the AL Central pennant.

New York Yankees vs. Boston Red Sox Free Picks

Yankees vs. Red Sox odds and PicksThe Boston Red Sox have been one of several surprises in the American League East this price per head season. They were never expected to be this good, and now that they are on top, finishing strong and locking up a division title has become an expectation. That challenge will continue with the New York Yankees in town this weekend, as Boston sends John Lackey to the mound opposite Hiroki Kuroda. Lackey has been in a bit of a slump with consecutive losses, while Kuroda has been the best starting pitcher in the Yankees’ rotation all year.

Kuroda will be looking for win No. 12 on the year when he takes the mound against the Red Sox, as he is 4-1 with an ERA under 2.00 in his last six starts. Inconsistency has plagued New York all year with starting pitching a major issue, but Kuroda has brought his ERA down to 2.33 and has been consistently strong all season.
